As Perry's album "Teenage Dream" had become the only album to generate four Digital Songs No. 1s - "California Gurls," featuring Snoop Dogg, the title cut, "Firework" and "E.T.," featuring Kanye West - the set makes further history as the only release to yield a quintet of toppers.
Airplay is also spurring the fast Hot 100 flight of "Friday," which jumps 40-21 in its second week on Radio Songs (44 million, up 57%). The song charges 25-13 as the Greatest Gainer on Pop Songs and enters Adult Pop Songs at No. 34. On the Hot 100, "Friday" flies 31-4 as the chart's Digital Gainer.
Perry's "E.T." dips 4-5 on the Hot 100. With "Friday" one spot above, Perry is the first artist this year to place two titles in the top five simultaneously as a lead act.
They do that with song titles, like "Run The World" would have been called "World" or "Born This Way" would be called "Born"
Anyways, Congratz Katy
In media it's common to first refer to something by its full name before referring to it by a shortened version. Like with people's names, you say their full name, then refer to them by their last name for the rest of the article (traditionally). It's just awkward for me to read "Friday" several times without ever seeing "Last Friday Night" or even "T.G.I.F."
What throws me off most is that there was a song called "Friday" that was big already this year... and the singer of that song ironically shows up in Katy's video. There wasn't a song this year called "Born" or "World." Not a huge thing, just rubs me the wrong way a little.
