I so agree with y ou. It's clear, the press loves Jen and that's good for her. However, there is a disconnect with what the media/brand thinks her sales power is and what the public shows.
Whoever said that she only had one week promo, that is not so. She has had a very high profile months before the cd. She appeared at the even with Oprah where she sang, 'I'm Here'. She was prominently featured at the Grammys for the Aretha tribute. She's had several magazine covers and her weight Watchers commercial airs non-stop, she appeared and performed New Year's Eve, 'I'm feeling good'. She did the following:
1. Bet mini concert
2. AOL sessions
3. Letterman
4. Morning Shows
5. Dancing With the Stars
6. American Idol
7. Kimmel
8. Ellen
9. Dick Clark New Year's Eve Special
10. GMA
11.
I can go on and on with her promo so based on this, she should have done at least 200k or more imo. Her promo hasn’t stopped and yet she is just 335k or so which imo, I agree with you. Her base purchased the cd the first 2 weeks but now she needs to get the casual fans and crossover. With the amount of promo she has had, her sales should be more. If you read blog posts, people like her, acknowledge her talent but aren't moved by her to stan bigtime. She has a base but it' small imo. She did a pretty big UK promo appearing and performing on several shows and after 3 weeks she fell out the charts with total sales of less than 50k if that. I understand what they are doing,t rying to build her brand and increase her profile internationally but I don't think it's working so far. mary J Blige has good UK promo and still her sales aren't huge and she is a far bigger known persona than J Hud. She's done promo in Japan, Australia and I believe Brazil. this will help her to make money touring but her worldwide sales are still very anemic. Again, her promo budget is much bigger than Fantasia or Monica who so far has outsold her.
Most artists would love her promo budget or s chedule. Week before last she sold 5k cds and was #84. I haven't seen last week numbers or chart position. She did several promo spots last week so it will be interesting to see her sales this week. So far, 'Nobody's gonna love you' is doing good at urban. Let's see if it will help her cd sales. At the end of the day, I don't think she will sell more than Monica and if she does, not much more. Monica ha sold around 550k or so. Jennifer could never open at 500k that's ludicrous! Alicia and Mary J didn't and they both have huge, dedicated fanbases and their cds were released during the holiday season where sales are higher. Monica had a hig BET show, less promo but a hit #1 song and she openned with around 175k last Feb/March.
I agree that she needs a collabo with a big artist. I've been saying this for months. Get a hot rapper or Alicia Keys ro someone of that nature to sing with. Her movie 'winnie' is soon due out. We'll see if she can carry a movie on her own. 'I got this' along with 'why is it so hard' and ' no ones gonna love u' are some of my fav songs on the cd.
