Barry Manilow inspired by Britney to write next album!
Quote:
Britney Spears' breakdown inspired Barry Manilow to write his first album of new material in a decade.
The crooner admits he watched horrified as the Toxic singer suffered a public meltdown at the beginning of 2008 and her sad demise prompted him to create a bunch of new songs after years of chart success with covers albums.
He tells the Los Angeles Times, "The thing we started to think about was when Britney Spears was being hounded by the paparazzi. They were driving her crazy. She couldn’t have a life without them pulling up next to her car and following her and driving her crazy to the point where... that was around the time she shaved off her hair.
"I think they actually helped to drive her crazy. We all looked at it in horror, and (songwriting partner) Nick (Andersen) and I said, 'Is this what happens these days?' So it seemed like a thing to be writing an album about."
I remember all my life
Raining down as cold as ice
A shadow of a man
A face through a window
Crying in the night
The night goes into
Morning, just another day
Happy people pass my way
Looking in their eyes
I see a memory
I never realized
you made me so happy, oh Britney
Well you came and you gave without taking
but I sent you away, oh Britney
well you kissed me and stopped me from shaking
I need you today, oh Britney
I'm standing on the edge of time
I Walked away when love was mine
Caught up in a world of uphill climbing
The tears are in my mind
And nothing is rhyming, oh Britney
Well you came and you gave without taking
but I sent you away, oh Britney
well you kissed me and stopped me from shaking
And I need you today, oh Britney
Yesterday's a dream I face the morning
Crying on the breeze
the pain is calling, oh Britney
Well you came and you gave without taking
but I sent you away, oh Britney
well you kissed me and stopped me from shaking
And I need you today, oh Britney
the worst vid i ever saw of britney was when she was crying with her little dog in her lap and the paps were still taking pics of her and mocking her. pure cruelty.
i know she still loves her fans but she has to protect herself now.
I'm happy the cautionary tale of Britney Spears has some sort of inspirational value, and at the same time it's really depressing to think that she's so synonymous with the troubled starlet cliche.
