She certainly brought back the anticipation and the idea that the music video is equally important, if not more than the song. Even Francis Lawrence agreed.
And I disagree with both you and Francis. Sorry, but I'm not going to sit here and ignore Michael, Janet, Madonna, Mariah, Britney, TLC, or TRL. I remember back when music videos would premiere WITH the song instead of two, three months later, because they were that important. TRL can even be considered the height of the music video. Sorry, I'm not going to forget about the past.
To talk like a Gaga stan you must act as if pop music did not exist before "Poker Face". As with most stans, Gaga stans have no sense of history and seem to believe that Lady Gaga invented the following things:
Music Videos
Avant Garde Fashion
Water
Dance Music
Pop Music
Gay Rights
Anal Sex
Oxygen
The Solar System
Beyonce
Bisexualty
I don't agree with any of it to be honest. Ke$ha is famous because early Madonna and Cyndi Lauper gave her the privilege. Katy Perry made one over the top video and it made sense obviously, Rihanna has always been haute couture and avant garde way before Gaga came along and her videos have not changed. Miley drew inspiration from everyone in pop, not just Gaga. And the ironic thing is they left out Beyonce who Gaga has actually inspired more than anyone.
Though the one I don't agree with is Rihanna - I don't see her getting "weirder." But the S&M video was very reminiscent of "Paparazzi," in very specific ways.
Ch.... she copied that video from a famous photographers best work no Paparazzi.
I'm still trying to see how Rihanna fits into all of this. Wasn't Rihanna the first to do dance music before GaGa?... And wasn't she always edgy when it came to her fashion? RS is doing the most and I can't some of you monsters believe this shot.

I didn't know LaChappelle was Stefani's other alter ego.
I really do not see any similarities between Gaga and Ke$ha besides the fact they both make dance-pop music. Their image is totally different. Their lyrics are too different. I just... don't see it. No.
I can understand people saying Natalia Kills copied her, or even Nicki maybe (she got offended when Billboard said she was the "Black GaGa"). But I just don't know about some of these. Some of them are reaches.
What differentiates fashion from music? They're both types of art, and they're both of huge importance in music right now, thanks to Lady Gaga. Arguing otherwise would force you to ignore the above comparison from Miley to Gaga, the ridiculous need to thrust fashion into the Hold it Against Me and E.T. videos, and Beyonce's jump to a new image. I'm not saying these artists have to or even should put this newfound emphasis on fashion, but the fact remains that they are, and it's because of Gaga.
Hold the **** up, Beyonce was Sasha Fierce before Just Dance was released or even came out, let alone before Gaga went avant garde. She has inspired her yes and Beyonce has inspired her too but dont say jumped to a new image like she went from wearing cowboy hats to bubble suits overnight.

That's exactly the point I'm making. I certainly recognize the past and influence TRL and the like had on music videos. I adore all those you had mentioned, and they in fact did create the hype surrounding music videos. But, that type of anticipation has been gone for a while (at least during the ushering of the digital age). Gaga has sort of made releasing videos an event again.

I don't really agree with any of it. Christina's career isn't ruined, she just had a TERRIBLE album. Miley went over the top with the bird ****, but it wasn't really GaGa per say.
Rihanna has always done her own thing. Katy Perry's cupcake/whip cream titties are the only thing I can compare to GaGa from this current era of her's, and even that's reaching.
I can see a slight comparison with Ke$ha, but musically she and GaGa are so different.
I think what this article is trying to say is that Lady GaGa's existence in the pop world has made it more acceptable/okay for these women to take fashion risks with choices in clothing that wouldn't have been as acceptable before her time.
It doesn't mean that she created any of this; if anything, it just means that she's upped everyone's game as far as the visual aspect of their performances go, and I'm perfectly okay with that!
