I will hold you all personally accountable if Americano ends up as a single anywhere but Mexico.

A pop star heading into album release with no big radio hit = slightly troubling. She suffered all sorts of backlash, re. her image, music, album cover, Madonna, overexposure, etc.
Katy headed into album release with the 2 biggest songs of the Summer (CG + TD), a huge media blitz starting with her judging Idol, being named Maxim's Woman of the Year, performing on and even hosting pretty much every awards show, and she failed to hit 200K.
Luckily Gaga is a far more intriguing, charismatic and striking personality, which is important for album sales. It's easier to be passionate about HER (and not just her songs), which equals album sales. Too bad the songs on BTW aren't up to par with what she deserves.

I was definitely starting to worry in the weeks leading up the album release. The media and public backlash was unreal. I'd never seen such a large-scale negative assault against a pop star.

I got a Yearbook from my school today, & they did a 2011 review, & they put Lady Gaga in it at the VMA's

In your opinion. I find BTW to be superior to her other work, with the exception of perhaps 3 songs from TF and 2 from TFM. Not only that, but BTW has converted a lot of non-fans into almost-fans. A lot of people where I live complained that her music was too same-y, but have listened to BTW and bought it.

First of all, I think all of her singles are going to "flop." By this, I mean, after The Edge of Glory, I can't see anything hitting number 1. She's not going to have fan support buying her singles from here on out. So many copies of the album were sold Week 1 that it almost carved out all the big singles buyers. I think this is a problem that Taylor Swift ran into as well. Back To December, Mean and The Story of Us are all performing well, but they are nowhere to be found near the top of the charts.
The Edge of Glory is a good song to have out right now, because it's appeal goes so far beyond the typical Gaga fan. After that though, things get much more difficult. Maybe she can sneak another big hit out of Marry The Night, but I'm not sure. Gaga is going to be off promoting the album in other places around the world, so hopefully the negative publicity will slow a bit here in the US and allow her songs to climb on their own merit.

I think whatver the album sales, if a song is good, you make a hit out of it! And she can do that with marry the night and shceisse, and of course very good videos (of the calibre of bad romance and telephone)!!
Look at Adel, she sold loads of album, but still RITD is selling very well as a single!

Agreed. Marry The Night is perhaps the finest song she has ever written. At first, Scheisse was the first to hit me, and I thought it was her best. But the instant effect of Scheisse is easily overtaken by how much Marry The Night has grown on me. Not only that, but remove the section after the 'clap' part and you have a shorter, extremely radio-friendly song

Marry The Night needs to be the last single to end the era

Any very popular artist worth caring about goes through it. It's sure to happen again. I can already see the vultures hovering around in anticipation of the second week drop.

The more I listen to the album, the more I think You and I, Electric Chapel and Born This Way are the best songs on it. I don't think there are any bad songs on it.

I was just thinking about this a few minutes ago. I've never seen such resistance towards an album before in my life. There's been a massive cloud of anger ever since she announced the title.
- The bitch-stole-Kylie's-single-cover fiasco
- The chola/orient backlash
- The Express Yourself world war
- The K-Pop plagiarism accusations
- The Catholic League
- The fast rise and fall of Judas
- The nightmare that was the worldwide reaction towards the album cover
And it's pretty amazing she overcame all of this

I was debating on whether or not to add TEOG and Marry The Night. I can't really tell if it's my favoritism trying to add them. I love listening to EC + You and I + TEOG. A great ending to the standard edition. Though The Queen is a good track, I wish it wasn't placed at #15 on the deluxe.

She overcame it all because she's Lady Gaga. She fought through it and it is paying dividends.

The honest truth is the general public simply does not give a **** about almost any of this, with the Express Yourself thing being an exception.
