It's not desperate or marketing genius; stuff like has been done before and it's not like free copies are being thrown at anybody the way some of you are making it seem, so it's not going to contribute much. I highly doubt a real "insider" actually said that this will give Gaga another 200,000 copies in her opening week unless stupid Gaga stans are all running to Best Buy this week to take up the offer. Basically Best Buy is benefiting from this by getting their name attached to Born This Way so people will think of Best Buy when going out to get their copy and while they're at it even get two year service on their smartphone as well. Gaga benefits from this because Best Buy will obviously put a spotlight on the album for anybody who walks into the store.

Are some of you serious trying to compare a remix single (like Gaga didn't rerelease BTW as remixes 1000 times) contributing to a song getting a higher peak to giving out up to 2 copies of an ALBUM, even if NOT requested? When a person buys a songs from iTunes, they are CHOOSING to buy it, with this they are NOT. So yes, this is flat out desperate but nothing Gaga and her team does surprises me anymore.

I don't recall Gaga "rereleasing BTW as remixes 1000 times." The Country Road version, the Bollywood Remix and the Culture Shock Remix (the three ones people made a big deal about) were available for streaming when they came out, not for sale on iTunes.
Also, where did you get that Best Buy is giving out up to two copies even if not requested? In the press release, it says customers at Best Buy who buy a smartphone with a two year contract are
offered a free copy.
