Ximena Sariņana
RS Exclusive: 'Shine Down'
MAY 20, 2011
Mexican singer-songwriter Ximena Sariņana came on the scene in 2008 with Mediocre, an album-length meditation on the idea of the "perfect" 1950s woman. Judging by this exclusive video for "Shine Down," the first single from her second album Ximena Sariņana, she may be poised for a breakthrough in the United States. It's a catchy, complex tune -- the guitars have the nervous energy of the Strokes, the beat has the Latin indie-disco flavor of CSS and Sariņana sings in a way that is both understated and immediately engaging. It's an up-tempo track, but she's very good at selling the subtle melancholy in the song's chorus.
I'm a bit confused. I mean, I like it, the instrumental is amazing, the song is good, but it has nothing to do with her previous work. It's like she is not the same person that once recorded Mediocre.
