Who are some of the artists you collaborated with on the new project?
Well, the thing about this record is I really call the experience being a part of music commune. There was never this concept of a producer coming in and producing it. Basically, there were five of us who all recorded day and night and slept in this house. We even ate together.

trying to cut down my cursing,” admits Solange Knowles as she sits inside a cabana on the roof of Manhattan’s upper Westside Empire Hotel. The feisty and outspoken baby sister of global pop superstar Beyonce has garnered somewhat of a reputation for having a sailor's vocab. The rebellious chick who sucker punched the music industry after releasing 2008’s critically acclaimed Sol-Angel and the Hadley St. Dreams, a confident mix of ‘60s pop, ‘70’s soul and underground alternative, made her indie queen aspirations known to the public.
As Solange prepares her ‘80s R&B meets new wave dance-rock follow-up, we spoke to the quirky vocalist-songwriter about her thoughts on getting the “weird” tag, why being Beyonce’s sister has its pitfalls, going independent and how recording her new material almost drove her to the brink of insanity. —Keith Murphy
Beyoncé’s sister Solange Knowles will be coming to Sydney to play a DJ set at Nevermind’s Saturday F#cking Night on January 16.
Knowles is currently in Australia recording her new album with electro pop duo the Midnight Juggernauts among others. This will be her only gay gig while she’s in town.
In 2008 Solange had success with her breakthrough single I Decided, which reached the top of the Billboard Hot Dance Club Play. Much like Dannii Minogue, Solange is always compared by the media to her sister, whom she considers one of her role models. In one of her tracks God Given Name she sings about her sibling rivalry, saying, “I’m not her and never will be.”
“People think there should be this great rivalry between us, but there’s never been any competition. There’s a big age gap and we are two very different characters,” Knowles said in an interview with UK’s Daily Mail.
On this next album, will the world can finally get a duet between Solange and her superstar sister, Beyoncé? "I definitely think that they'll be a time and a place for me and my sister to collaborate," Solange told MTV News. "It's just all about the time and the place and letting it evolve naturally — and whenever that day happens well embrace it well come up with something good."
Cannot wait for her new album!!! Her second album is so good!!! Left Side Drive is a masterpiece!
!!!
I know! Sol-Angel and the Hadley St. Dreams was amazing. T.ON.Y, Cosmetic Journey, SandCastle Disco & Dancing in the dark all slay the fiber on my being. I'm also so glad she's going more indie rock this album. It fits her personality and style more. She's like the Black Indie Queen.
**** the comparison.
I had enough of that ****. its so 2002.
go listen to "god-given name" haters.
"Im NO sister. Im just my god-given name!"
