But ripping off the biggest sex symbol is just different?
Not to mention, Debbie Harry believed Madonna copied her as well. Blondie is pretty iconic as a band, with Debbie's style being easily recognizeable.

No matter how you twist it, Madonna got just as much as flack for copying people as Gaga. The fact is Madonna seemingly did not become original until February 11, 2011 when Lady Gaga released 'Born This Way.' Eventually, the same will happen to Gaga. 50 years from now, someone is copying to be so inspired by her that all the people who called Gaga a rip off will soon be calling her an original.

DON'T DO THAT.
1) first what Madonna did is an homage, plus it is done with a lot of irony, and second sense of humour , she used the comparisons with a REAL purpose and a huge sense of humour and tour de force, she hijacked Marylin Monroe to fight back criticism and she created and embodied female pop music.
2) Madonna (singer) used an iconic persona (Marylin, already dead) who's in the movie (even though Marylin can really sing amazingly). GaGa (singer and make up artist) used another musical reference who is still alive, a singer too, and who's still outthere releasing music and doing lots of concerts. MAdonna is a pop music icon. Marylin was not a pop music icon. SHe became a movie icon after her death.
3) If GaGa was smart, she would have waited until Madonna's dead or hijacked another pop artist that is not a singer in pop music. Let's say why not Mae West or Grace Kelly or Bette Davis etc...
Madonna did not use Barbra Streisand (another pop icon and female icon of self empowerement). GaGa better stop copying Madonna because, clearly, she is becoming ridiculous and fake and people are starting to really feel annoyed by her pretentious act :

On second watch, I’m officially tired of this broad and insulted. She keeps on wishing so hard that she was doing something dope, everything she puts her hands on looks like a desperate stunt. This is not art — it’s a gross attempt to try to stir the pot in a way that people see right through. All the religious imagery means…what? Is attached to what? It’s divorced from all meaning. We’re not that young bitch — 22 year olds still know who the **** Madonna is.
ROFL! LMAO! And let the truth be said!

Damn! This was boring as hell! I mean, I already didn’t like the song, but this video did nothing for the song at all! It was so…..blah! Her dancing was stiff and lack luster, like I was watching a Britney Spears video, and as usual she was uneccessarily weird. Why does she make those dumb ass faces? Why, just why?
It seems like she is trying so hard to be ‘Gaga’ that she just gets lost in her own artistry! She just does to much and she is really starting to underwhelm. Her music and now her videos are disappointing her. She is so early in her career, it would be a shame for her burn out this early. I wonder how her first week numbers are gonna be?
The guy she was riding on the motorcycle with was cute as hell! I ‘ve seen him in some movies but I forgot his name though. *shrugs*
*waits to see how many of her stans call this epic*

Gaga girl, hang it up. You look a fool doing that stiff ass choreography. I bet she thought she slayed. *side eye*
And the video made no sense as usual. The song is flopping and it will continue to flop. I’m tired of this dusty bitch hyping herself for months only to have this garbage video to show for it.
Next.

THIS IS NOT THE GAGA PEOPLE FELL IN LOVE WITH, SHE HAS CHANGED SO MUCH ITS UNBELIVABLE….
I MEAN THE SONG IS GOOD(INSTRUMENTAL AND ARRANGEMENT) MINUS THE BIBLICAL REFERENCES
BUT IMAGEWISE AND PERFORMANCE WISE GAGA IS A MESS
SHE MUST BE TAKING DRUGS BECAUSE SHE HAS DETORIATED… AND THIS VIDEO?WELL…..
ALL I CAN SAY IS WE NEED NEW ARTISTS ASAP
GAGA IS OVER, BEYONCE IS OVER, BRITNEY IS OVER… RIHANNA WILL BE OVER…
NONE OF THESE PEOPLE HAVE TALENT THEY ARE JUST GIMMICKS
THEY WILL NEVER BE ON THE SAME LEVEL AS MJ NO MATTER HOW MUCH THEY TRY
PURE GARBAGE!

Um, you really, really think Gaga's hoping to get away with her homage and she thinks no one will notice? C'mon. From the beginning Gaga has made it very clear that she's all about her influences, and a part of her "project" is that pop music needs to be fun again like it was in the 80s. From the very beginning she's been an obvious, blatant hodgepodge of the pop star cliche, and Madonna is the most iconic one.
And those quotes mean nothing. Because some random guy says Gaga doesn't have talent, that means I should ignore the fact that her vocals outshine almost every other girl releasing music today? Because someone says Gaga is over, that means the country is tired of her? Look at the iTunes sales numbers right now and you'll see Gaga is far from over.
Just wait until Born This Way is released. Then you'll see who's over.

1. Obviously Gaga used Madonna as homage in some places as well. Her ad for heartbeats is a clear example of this. You could easily say that Gaga is doing the same out of irony and humor, especially with an upcoming track title 'Black Jesus.'
2. That is circular logic, and lame as well. Madonna is the Queen of Pop. Almost everyone takes from her. Gwen Stefani, Christina, Rihanna....the list goes on. Her influence on the pop scene was so large that it is kind of difficult not to see who doesn't. Also, you neglect the fact that people still called Madonna unoriginal back when she was fresh. She faced ridicule from copying the dead and the living. Copying someone who is not big is even worse than copying someone who is iconic. Why? Because everyone copies icons. Michael, Janet, Madonna, The Beatles.....their influences are visibly seen on basically every artist. However, Madonna got flack for allegedly borrowing from lessors and compilng them together.
3. See above.
4. No one seemed to have a problem when Born This Way hit #1 for six weeks and continues to linger around the higher ends of the charts. Of course people are tired of her, but what's your point? Were people never tired of Madonna? Who was called an attention *****, untalented, unoriginal, and fake. Sound familiar, doesn't it? The whole 'Madonna' backlash is part of Gaga's initation as an uprising "icon." Like I said before, a few years from now none of this will matter. It is already taking place. Ever heard of Natalia Kills? Accused of copying Gaga. If Kills were to get bigger, trust me...she would be called unoriginal and suddenly Gaga would be original. This is how it works, and you will deal.

Laurieann sounds confused... She's a great addition to Gaga's team.

She's getting on my ****ing nerves.
She's just denying it and not explaining / correcting / apologising / or clarifying what she mean't.
L.A. Times asked the damn question, she would have answered mentioning Madonna.
She lost thousands of followers too

She's such a dumbass.
But Gaga remains unbothered with her promo single sitting pretty at number one on iTunes.
