Cobra Starship have exclusively revealed to Altpress that they will release their new single, "You Make Me Feel... (feat. Sabi)," to online retailers on May 10 via Decaydance/Fueled By Ramen.
Frontman Gabe Saporta tells us, "About two years ago, I started posting stuff on Tumblr. And the first thing that I decided to share was a video of these two girls called the Bangz singing about how they 'only date boys with tattoos.' They were also doing what looked like a backwards running man whilst proclaiming they were 'jerkin.' Needless to say, I fell in love. It's crazy to think that was less than two years ago, because as a fad, jerkin feels way older than that—though I have to admit, I never did quite learn to do it correctly in spite of the countless 14-year-olds who tried to teach me. But some great talent came out of that scene. It certainly wasn't a scene like the one I was used to, but I'm always drawn to things that are different; the colliding of worlds excites me. So I tried to reach out to the Bangz while recording our last album. I thought they'd be great for 'Nice Guys Finish Last.' But alas, despite being able to get Leighton Meester, a Bangz cameo eluded me. The universe has a funny way of circling back around, and a couple months ago a memo came across my desk at the headquarters of Cobra International. It read, 'Sabi from the Bangz wants to do a song with you . . . don't be a putz.' (Band photo: Matthew Salacuse)
I knew that "Don't blame the world..." wasn't going to be their first single. It was just too weak.
I see they are trying to use the same formula from the last era.
The preview was just good. Need to hear the full thing.
