Beyoncé to leave Oxegen gasping
Superstar Beyoncé is to make her Oxegen Festival debut this July.
The multi-million album-selling popstar, who last played Ireland in 2009, is the latest artist to add her name to the line-up at Punchestown. It follows from her announcement earlier this year that she is to headline at Glastonbury.
In 2008 Beyoncé's husband, rapper Jay-Z, became one of the first non-rock acts to headline Glastonbury. The news of his headline slot caused controversy at the time, but he silenced critics with a blistering performance. Beyoncé was at Glastonbury with him and expressed an interest in performing at a festival herself.
With more than 75m worldwide album sales as a solo artist alone, Beyoncé is now one of the best-selling artists of all-time.
Her new single, Run The World (Girls), is a taster from her much-anticipated fourth solo album.
The album’s due out this summer and Oxegen fans will be among the first to hear the new material live.
Beyoncé’s most recent multi-platinum album, I Am....Sasha Fierce includes her anthem Single Ladies and If I Were A Boy. The album won her six Grammy Awards, the most for any female artist in a given year, bringing her total to 16.
The former Destiny's Child star has dominated the music charts this decade - spending more weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 than any other female artist.
She has also had more Top 40 hit records over the past 10 years and most cumulative time spent at number one.
Forbes Magazine voted her No 1 in its list of the Most Powerful and Influential Musicians in the World.
Oxegen's festival director John Probyn said: “We’re always striving to bring the biggest and best talent to Oxegen and they don’t come any bigger than Beyoncé. She is a truly incredible artist and an amazing live performer.
“This year we’ve got most of the artists headlining the UK’s major festivals on one bill — it’s all about giving fans value for money and delivering an unforgettable experience.”
Tickets for Oxegen are on sale now from €99.50.
This hasn't been 100% confirmed YET, but an official announcement is expected tomorrow.
