Could FOX be seeing its title as the home for musical competitions slipping from its fingers?
Now that "American Idol" has some viewers pretty much annoyed with the show this season and "X-Factor" is still an unknown quantity to American viewers, NBC's recent success with "The Voice" and "The Sing-Off" is creating some good buzz for the network.
Now, NBC's head of alternative programming, Paul Telegdy, tells the New York Post that "Idol" host Ryan Seacrest's production company is developing a musical reality competition show with the network that could compete with his FOX show in the future.
The exec says it's "another music concept, which is a totally different kind of competition show."
"It is self-contained episodes," he explains. "It is a bit more fun. It's not contestant competitive. It's artist competitive." Whatever that means.
That explanation does give us an idea of how early in development the show is. Apparently, it may not hit our TV sets for as much as two years from now.
At this time, it's premature to conclude that Seacrest would leave "Idol" to host this new show, but it's definitely intriguing that he's working with NBC in the first place.
