Hey everyone! I was wondering if anyone had some advice on gaining muscle.
I recently lost around 17 pounds...and I feel like I look really scrawny, and I want to gain muscle, but I don't wanna gain back fat. I am 17 years old, male, around 137 pounds and 5'8.

P90X will not put lots of muscle mass on you. Eat lots of protein and get on a heavy weight lifting regimen.

Rippetoes Starting Strength would be a good place to start. It's a strength building program, but as a beginner you'll gain a lot of mass.
http://www.ironmagazineforums.com/tr...s-program.html
And because you are scrawny you have to EAT, EAT, EAT. That means you should take a BMR calculator test online like this: http://www.bmi-calculator.net/bmr-calculator/ Fill out your age, weight, and height get the results, then go to the next page where it will ask you how active you are. Multiply the results you get from the BMR with your activity level and it will give you approximately how many calories you need need to survive everyday.
To gain weight you need to eat 500 more calories over that survival level EVERY DAY to help you gain muscle. A good amount of calories to start with would be about 2,500 daily, and if you don't see any gain after a week, increase by 200 more. You also need about 1.5- 2x your body weight in protein, preferrably from stuff like eggs, milk, fish, lean meat(chicken breast). Protein powder is good too, especially whey protein you can get that at Wal-mart etc. Any other questions you can ask me.

You need to do weight lifting, and I mean to the point where you shock the muscles into reforming into stronger masses. One day, work the arms, chest and abs. Next day, cardio. Following day, legs, butt, next day, cardio. Friday = full body workout. Sat/Sun = rest. Rest is important for recuperating muscles

THIS. And plenty of sleep as well. That's when you'll do the most growing. I tend not to do TOO much cardio, because I have an extremely Godzilla like fast metabolism and I would see very minimal gains at all otherwise. But it will help keep the fat off, which you're gonna get with the muscle.

No, do not overeat. When you gain muscle mass, you'll be a bit more hungry, and you can eat a bit more. But do not eat twice as much.
You need to also get protein, which promotes muscle growth. I do not use protein supplements; there's lots of natural sources, like beef, fish, nuts and greek yogurt.
I have a good muscle mass in my arms, but I also have some work to do in eliminating flab. But compared to before, these arms are pretty tough...at least for a lady.

Yes but eating more than you need is an unhealthy way of gaining weight. That's the kind that turns to fat, blocks arteries and such.
Better weight gain would be due to gaining muscle through proper protein intake and weight lifting. Also, drink lots of water.
