Set Fire to the Rain is going to smash really hard later this year in my opinion. I hope I'm right.

If Adele is SMASHING with just one song, I can't imagine how will it be when she releases the real masterpieces of the album

Only 1 song, then her album is near to platinum in US, wow, she's not even known everywhere in US.

Out of all the UK female artists who have broken out in the U.S. within the past ten years, Adele is the most successful here. Amy Winehouse, Corinne Bailey Rae, Joss Stone, Estelle, Florence Welch, Natasha Bedingfield, etc. do not come close. Leona comes close because of "Bleeding Love," but Adele clearly eclipses her since Adele now has TWO platinum plus selling albums.

Yes, definitely. And Cap'n, I think part of the problem people has is it seems that a lot of the "new" fans of Adele are sort of bandwagoning and that maybe she's getting more credit for doing a different style of music/having a non-commercial image than she is for the quality of the music itself. It is a change of pace, for sure, but is she being graded on a curve compared to the other pop tarts?
I like her quite a bit, she has undeniable talent, but I think she's on the verge of becoming overrated. There are only so many comments you can hear that seem to be predicated on the "aw, it's great that a heavy girl has become popular" sentiment before it becomes a bit eyeroll-worthy. Her reviews are honestly not that amazing, particularly for her genre.

Funny thing is, I do not really notice this "praise" that she is getting, at least on the Internet. It's mostly some praise here and there, but most of it is, "I don't understand how she is so successful. Her music is boring and she is overrated." I think the general public feels a bit differently towards her than some critics and those opinions on the Internet. It's really not her fault that she is getting such praise from the public. She is obviously connecting with the public with this album for whatever reasons.

I still don't know how she got popular here. I didn't know X-Factor crossed over to the U.S. I'm hoping her ass doesn't release another album this Christmas.

Really? I see her getting a lot of praise, particularly from teenagers who aren't familiar with much music beyond Top 40 fare and seem to find it cool or alternative to embrace someone who's rather non-commercial. And that's nothing to speak of the soccer mom contingent who think she's the bee's knees.
I'm not denying that she's obviously made a connection, I'm just not sure the hype is necessarily justified in this case. Let's just say she's no WInehouse, IMO.

I love Adele and I bought her CD first week, but I will say that I have noticed quite a bit of bandwagoning going on, both here and elsewhere. But I guess it comes with the territory. Hopefully it's because of the music and not because of her success.

I think this hype really started after her Grammy wins. I discovered her when she did SNL with Sarah Palin as the host and then she got all the Grammy recognition. "Hometown Glory," "Cold Shoulder" and "Make You Feel My Love" became my personal anthems.
I don't really think quality of music = hype, in many different cases. I kinda hate the Winehouse comparisons because they are so different. I think she is more in the line of Norah Jones, who all had similar acclaim and success. I remember people were saying the same about her (and yes, this was way back in 2002 or 2003).
I do hear what you and others are saying. I think she deserves all of her success because she has worked hard to get here, and I do think it's refreshing that we see someone different in terms of looks and in sound than what's currently out. I don't place her above EVERYONE in the music industry. I actually think there is room for everyone and all types of different artists.

*stands up on podium and grabs mic* i still remember the day Adele was introduced to my life. I was watching MTV's Taking the stage (basically it showed the life of 10 students that went to one of the best know performing arts school in the us and how dey had their talent shows n etc.) anyway there was one girl named mia who had an amazing voice and she sang chasing pavements. right after hearing it, i loved the lyrics and wanted to hear the original. i found out it was from some new uk singer by the name of adele. i downloaded the song and never heard about her until i saw the vid for hometown glory on mtv. i sed to myself "i gotta keep my eyes on her" and i did. as i grew older, i researched her b/c b4 i stan for someone i gotta know their whole life story. after duffy disappointed me with her lil album dat flopped, my only hop was adele and she delivered. look at her now:
1. Rolling in the Deep - ADELE

Poor Duffy. Her latest album sucked, but I am like the only one who really like "Well, Well, Well."
I love my UK female artists. Florence better come hard with next album because I live for Lungs.
Anywho, back on topic:
I need that "Time after Time" rendition by Javier How is that song doing?
