For me, the 2001 "Slave 4 U" performance holds the title of Greatest VMA performance ever. When I think VMA's, the Britney 2000 and 2001 performances are always the first things that pop into my mind (the infamous lesbo kiss and tragic 2007 performances as well), but I think the Slave one was the more iconic one.

Another telling thing is when you type in on the internet "Best VMA performance ever/all time," both Britney performances are consistently mentioned at the top.
