Anyway, you can tell she took BTW very personally and it was by far her most earnest song (part of why I was always wary of the very idea of it, I think trying to bring an important message can end up crushing a song under its weight), so it had to have hurt her for people to be so dismissive with the comparison and plagiarism accusation.
I really doubt she set out to mimic EY, but I was always one who had trouble hearing the melodic similarities. If anything it seems like EY's melody is a lot closer to Respect Yourself (which came nearly 20 years before). I feel like it was a sub-conscious thing, if anything. The guy gave her an out to say it was "homage," but she didn't take it.

Is she oblivious? Interesting. On a related note, CNN reported that Madonna's representative was "not aware that Madonna sent Gaga an e-mail."
I don't think 90% of the people who heard Born This Way would have thought it sounded like Express Yourself unless it was brought to their attention. After that, they heard what they wanted to hear.
There's a girl who sang a mashup on YouTube... EY's verse with BTW's chorus and vice versa. It's actually stunning how similar they are and how well they fit together.

+1 + Alejandro will be ever compared to Ace of base IMO those two songs doesn't fit her discography, like this songs aren't right there.
I think she meant to homage Ace of Base with Alejandro. I thought it was a rip at first, but just going back to what she said in the interview about when she homages, it's clear as day, it makes sense.
She really needs to lay off the controlled substances when she writes her dreck songs. She's not a Messiah. And judging by her latest songs/interviews, she's not too literate either.

It is similar and of course she senses the similarities just like her stans in denial say they don't. I've got tons of 80s disco songs and I never found any of them similar to EY.

I think it more has to do with the fact that people think she plagiarized when its obvious that its a similar chord progression in most disco music which was the feel she was going for as seen by some one elses post in this thread how France doesnt even associate BTW with EY but another song that was released BEFORE express yourself.

It's not true, people love the song otherwise it wouldn't have the success it had. you can't take opinions of 20 people on the internet as what the whole world thinks
