When a song is announced as a single, sometimes people get a bit nervous for the artist and that the song may flop. Then when it comes out, it can either rise up or automatically start smashing.
What single(s) did you have this feeling with, but then when they came out - they smashed?
Both of Jessie J's singles, I downloaded DILAD on the first day of release then it was on itunes for aaaaages before it impacted then Price Tag was release quite soon after when no one had really heard it. I will never doubt her again.
I was kinda disappointed with the lyrics too.. at first listen though, I knew it'd be a hit, her name alone is good enough for tons of sales. It actually did a lot better than I thought it would.

Born This Way - the lyrics made me say that, I was like "Oh my god, it's very straight to the point" because I was hoping more like metaphorical type, but I'm glad she didn't go with that because it will sound like Fireworks.
When the song released, I was in complete shock - the song was a grower... but look now. It was really successful.
E.T. - I absolutely love the song, but coming after HUGE hits like California Gurls, Teenage Dream, and Firework I was a bit worried, but it smashed just fine. :] And the addition of Kanye was nice too, though I hate that they took the bridge out... :\
