Music News: Pia signs with Interscope, begins work on debut album

To capitalise on her current fame Pia will immediately begin work on recording her debut album under the Interscope Records imprint, which is chaired by Idol mentor Jimmy Iovine.

Although American Idol bosses have not commented on the reports, a source told UsMagazine that the record label was rushing to get the 22-year-old New Yorker into the studio.

'Starting right after the show, Interscope told her they wanted her and first thing [Friday] morning Interscope brass started calling every top songwriter and producer in town to get an album together and rush release it,' the source revealed.

Pia, 22, was the judges' favourite to win the show, but received the least number of votes on Thursday.

The judges were visibly horrified at her departure, while thousands of fans took to forums to lobby for her return, even starting a petition.

Pia herself was sanguine about her departure during interviews with journalists yesterday.

Well aware that her secret deal was being drawn up offscreen, the popular contestant was happy to discuss her future.

'It was my time to go,' she said.

And she addressed reports that her up-tempo song choice was to blame, saying: 'I feel like every mistake you make helps you grow as a person.'

I don't believe it, just the quotes doesn't seem like they would be said from someone at a record label. Sure she can get signed, but she won't be released before the actual winner or even runner-up's single.

Chris Daughtry, Jennifer Hudson, Clay Aiken were clear favorites and they didn't win but look at them now.

Right I don't get it either! I forgot about Adam, this is why I usually stop watching idol around the 4th week of the 12 finalists. The auditions are the best part of the show. I think it would be better if they didn't leave the whole show up to peoples votes. IMO Jerome should have been went home. He'll never make it in the industry.

Who's Jerome? And who's the 3rd successful winner? I only know of Kelly & Carrie.

And I agree, the auditions are the best part. It just seems like young girls vote. I saw an article about it, I think it was on Billboard actually, saying that girls don't vote for girls, so that's why 4 girls went home, and Scotty is still there.

And the 3rd winner I was referring too was Fantasia...LOL she's done better than all the male winners so I gave her that.
