The hype rolls on: Radio station goes all Lady Gaga
By David Hinckley
Once upon a time, radio station WXRK (92.3 FM) was defined by the all-encompassing shadow of its morning man, Howard Stern.
For the next week, it will be the station of Lady Gaga.
WXRK, better known these days at 92.3 Now, has changed its tag and logo to 92.3 Gaga. If that doesn’t sound serious enough, it has also changed its website to
www.923gaga.com.
This will continue until midnight next Thursday the 14th — athough it doesn’t mean 92.3 will be playing all Lady Gaga music for the next week. Successful as she’s been, she doesn’t have quite the catalog to fill a week of programming.
But it does put 92.3 FM in the front of the drum section for the parade that’s marching toward the May 23 release of her new CD, “Born This Way” and her concerts April 22 at the Prudential Center in Newark and April 23 at Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale.
The station will be giving away tickets to those shows as well as flooding the area with Gaga look-alikes and “Little Monsters.” Catch them at Penn Station, Grand Central Station, the Yankees game, the Staten Island Ferry and elsewhere.
