Couldn't have said better - Although I do like genuinely like 'Someone Like You'. Aside from the latter, 'Lovesong' (which isn't even her song) and 'Set Fire To The Rain', the album is pretty disposable IMO.
But it is indeed the kind of album that critics EAT like there's no tomorrow, and so will moms, grandmoms and the Grammys.

Her music reminds me of the "important" period piece that critics / the Academy Awards go crazy over. After watching it you're like, yeah it was good and certainly a nice break from all the sequels and comic book movies out there, but judging it on its own merits it's not that amazing.

But isn't that true for a lot of popular stuff gets rewarded prestigious honors?

Adele is just the continuation to Amy Winehouse, Duffy and last year's British "deep act" with a "big voice" and "classic songs soul feel groove from the 20s, 30s and 40s", it's so predictable is even funny.

That may be true but she does it just as well as any legend did in their time and you know it. Amy and Duffy don't hold a single candle to Adele, vocally or lyrically, neither of them could EVER come for Someone Like You on their best day.

Not really a continuation since she debuted in the U.S. around the same time Amy Winehouse and Duffy did. Florence Welch is more of a continuation since she came after all three.

To be quite honest, I haven't listened to her songs bar the 30 seconds preview of Rolling In The Deep on iTunes, I'm just not interested in the kind of music she "represents", her image and sound has been donde before. And you just like her now because she's the hot new thing to like just like one time you liked Lady Gaga. And Nicole is starting to shade her because she will outsell Gaga this year. I can read yo minds.

What I meant is that she is 2011's British flash in the pan, just like Wino was in her year, Leona was in hers, Duffy was in hers, etc. We have one every year that sells all the records and sweeps all the Grammy's. All of them exprience different success, but in the end, it's more of the same.

I'm not a hater. She's lovely and she has a tremendous voice. It's really jarring to hear it coming from a white girl her age. That said, what I heard on the album didn't quite live up to what I heard about the album. But it's mostly a matter of personal taste.

I actually liked Adele during the 19 era as well as my last.fm receipts will show. I'm just the opposite of you, I like what she represents and I love her image and sound, the big voice, the vintage sound mixed with a modern touch pleases me. And the fact that she is successful is just a plus for me seeing as how many girls like her with that sound don't get too many chances anymore in mainstream Hollywood.

Did I hear someone mentioning Duffy? That girl even seems like being unable to "continue" herself, not to be compared to the magnificent ADELE.

Nah, I think Nicole is slowly getting into Adele but don't want to admit it. And she doubts GaGa too much.

It's not even like the album was loved to death by critics, the public just seems to think so.
It only has a 76 metascore. While that is a good metascore, it's not even as high as Taylor Swift's "Speak Now" and that album had to endure half the reviews giving it terrible scores just because "she sounds like a little girl and needs to grow up." I feel like the public is what's overhyping this album to oblivion, not so much the critical world, which gave it a warm but not exceptional reception.
