Shameless, then Skins and now this This is one of my fave shows, i won't even watch the US version

I personally didn't think the US Skins was as bad as people make it out to be. There were a lot of things I prefer about the original (nothing comes close), but there were some things I loved about the US version too. It's not always the case that "Americans" ruin British shows... Look at Queer As Folk...

Because Americans can't understand/deal with our crazy British accents.
No literally, when I'm in the states sometimes people think I'm talking a different language.

Yeah, many Americans have trouble deciphering the many accents, but if they watch long enough they should be fine. [^_^] I think if they began airing the British originals on US tv, however, that it would keep loyal fans happy, but because they'd already seen the shows they would be less likely to tune in, which means the airing would get cancelled because advertisers would pull out. To solve that problem they'd have to develop a British show that was aired somewhat simultaneously in both the US and the UK.

The American version was like a parody of our version.
Or more to the point, why can't they be original and think up their own shows? You can't take a show that is built around 'britishness' and turn it American, it doesn't work.

I think it's more of an MTV US issue. They've come up with many original shows that have gone on forever (Real World, Road Rules, and now Jersey Shore). Whereas other networks have developed truly unique shows that engage a lot of people (Glee, True Blood, Dexter, Modern Family, etc.) I think MTV is reaching a point where they're hesitant to create brand new shows because they've developed some awkward formula for mindlessly entertaining teens... So instead of create, they "borrow" inspiration from shows overseas that have done well, but they attempt to adapt it to what they think their audience would like. It's a huge gamble.
There have been plenty of US shows that did better than British counterparts as well (American Idol surpassed Pop Idol by a lot, even though it was a UK show first, and as mentioned above, US Queer As Folk surpassed the UK original). Perhaps if MTV would cut the crap with the mindlessly formulaic writers and directors they've been hiring, they can do something great... But until then there are plenty of other shows that can satisfy our craving for quality).
