Gaga didn't release anything in 2010 and Britney's first three albums were back-to-back.
Also, Paula's second album had already sold less than half of her debut.

So you just contradicted yourself?
The FACT is that Christina doesn't have a career anymore. She can always comeback, but right now, she's a non-entity and Britney is still discussed and BOUGHT, whenever she releases a single it sells like hot cakes, just because it doesn't sell 7 million like I Gotta Feeling doesn't mean it's a flop.

People like her music, bottom line. She is not the first to rely on the visual aspect to help amplify her persona. Everybody uses something, and I think Gaga's proven that she has enough going on musically to prove she has substance and the potential for longevity.
Neither Madonna nor Britney had done anything revolutionary with their music in their first two albums, and I'd daresay Gaga's music up to this point has shown greater promise than either of those respective first efforts. She'd hardly a musical revolutionary, but she has a fair amount of critical acclaim to her credit (not to mention two AOTY nominations in a row, with a third widely predicted as likely).
And I think you'd find yourself in the minority when it comes to your assessment of BR. The video is inextricably married to the song, yes, but that's hardly a bad thing when you present yourself as a visually-oriented musician. The song itself was widely acclaimed and I think is generally perceived as being one of the best pop songs of the past few years.
And maybe she will be a fad, although that seems to me to be increasingly absurd prediction at this point, but it wouldn't change the fact that she is easily at the top of the game right now. Again, if we're requiring some measure of "longevity" then Britney never took the title from Madonna, not even close. I'm not here for delusion.  |
I've never implied that Britney Spears "took" the title from Madonna. It's just a natural progression. That's just the way it is. Britney is relevant. Britney has been in the business for over a decade. And Britney is still delivering number one hits. Britney Spears is the Queen of Pop. I don't see how that's hard to understand or even debatable. And like I've already mentioned, that does not diminish Madonna or what she has done. "...Baby One More Time" changed the music industry, and that was revolutionary, P. Britney Spears was the sole cause of the resurgence of pop when the music industry was strictly Hip Hop & R&B at the time. Deal. I see your argument of, "Everyone has a shtick when they start out." However, that shtick does not define the artist. Lady Gaga has "become" Lady Gaga. That's not a good sign for her music and her persona will wear thin with the public rather quickly, but of course, before it does, I'm sure she'll do another "outrageous" scene at an awards show to soak up some more juice from the media. That's Lady Gaga's game. And that's fine... for now. Her longevity is questionable, and, again, like I've already mentioned, because Lady Gaga is the "hot item" right now with a couple hits under her belt, does not make her The Queen of anything -- just a hot artist. I stick by my original statement, if she's still flourishing in 6 years, then I'll reassess my feelings towards her. But now, she's just another hot sprocket making its way through the machine that is the music industry.
