Honestly, I think Gaga saved me.
Before I loved Gaga, I loved Britney and when I did... I was getting hated, being called homo, gay, etc. And with Gaga I sorta get hated but only like 3 times a year.
Britney has that sorta 'gay' feel to her music and Gaga does too BUT she has hardcore sounding songs like Reloaded, Poker Face, Just Dance, etc. Whilst last month someone looked in my Diary and noticed I had written 'Hold It Against Me' and they started...
One month after (last week) I written Dont Be A Drag, Just Be A Queen in my diary. One of the 'cool' people saw it and went "Hey, do you have that song on your phone? I really want it!" I was shocked... I get hated over Britney but not Gaga, really... Gaga saved me from hatred or a chance of me punching someone.

I know what you mean. Even though I never liked Britney, I always thought her music was cheesy, smooth and for girls

So, in my mind, guys liking her were pretty much all like Chris Crocker. I know that's not true today, but still I'm pretty sure some people still think like that.
With Gaga, I know it's a very gay artist, but not in a bad way like you said. She's so powerful and her music is actually good (for everyone..), so people are more open. I actually did my coming out when Love Game came out

I was pretty much ready, but she gave me that extra push to do it !
