Anyone hate St. Patrick's day?
Actually, I don't like St. Patrick's day. A lot of people just use it as an excuse to act retarded, and its really annoying. Honestly, non-Irish folk make 10x a bigger deal out of it than (we) Irish people do, and usually the actual Irish kids you DO see running around wearing green this and using green that, forget for the rest of the year where their ancestors come from. So how do u think about St. Patrick's day

Please this had no reason to be reported.
And yes, I'll type reasons in a bit. I live in Scranton, huge Irish pop, but doesn't matter 'cause everyone's Irish on parade day.

It's OK.. I don't really ever do anything special for/on it though.. but I'm Irish so it's fine with me.

That was mostly the reason I didn't like it.

You do not know true hate for St Patricks day until you live in Ireland.
I just can't be ****ed with it.
And it annoys me that most Americans take it more seriously than Irish people, that'd be like me having a 4th of July party. Weird. It's just another day.

Okay, so in Scranton, 'Parade Day' is a big deal.
Quote:
We are the second largest parade in the country, as measured by participants per population of the city in which it's held*. Savannah, GA is first, New York City was third.

EVERYONE gets drunk. Big, Small. Tall, Short. Men, Women. Boys, Girls. Irish, non-Irish. White, White. ETC.
THE trashiest and scummiest day of the entire year.

It links to a site selling something. Besides, we don't know if it's reliable. It's probably full of scams and viruses.

I doubt people will buy from that site. Or the purpose was to get people to buy from it.
They serve as examples of what people wear.

Most people I know use it as an excuse to get drunk... like New Years. I just wish people would just leave you alone if you weren't wearing green....

It's an excuse to drink here like Cinco de Mayo. And for the people of Irish descent to be all proud (things such as yelling all month this is my month while getting wasted, at 15 .)
They wear all green all year round and shirts that say Irish, green everything. yet they need this day to really emphasize it. Yet they, for the most part, know nothing about Ireland.

This irritates me to no end. I go over to Minnesota ALL the time, my boyfriend lives there. And people will come up to me and be like OMG I'm Irish too...and I'm like, oh right, both parents from there or jsut one? Then they will be like no my great Aunt was from there and I'm like...oh god then you are not Irish, you have Irish heritage but you ARE NOT IRISH.
More people claim to be Irish than there is people in Ireland. I swear to god. It's one thing to be proud of your ancestry but really? Be proud of who you are and wear you come from, don't try and be someone you aren't.

People here are ridiculous about ancestry. Most common thing, is someone being Polish, Irish, German, etc. If they are one drop of blood from anywhere they will claim it, whether they know anything (and I mean trivial stuff like the capitol ) or not.
I have several great grandparents from Ireland.
But since they went to Mexico, really from there does it matter much?
Culture didn't keep going, but I have this whole branch of red heads who have really fair skin and freckles in my family.
I could be "more Irish" than most of the people who claim to be, but heaven forbid I claim that ancestry... random rant.

I understand where you are coming from but you have your head on straight, you aren't saying HEY I'M IRISH, you are saying, I have relatives from there. I am 100% Irish, born and bred.
I bet most people celebrating St Patricks day know nothing about him, he wasn't even Irish ffs.
