Well, we know that Laura Linnery has basically already won Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series, even though I would barely classify "The Big C" as a comedy (or good). In recent years, the Emmys have been popping a major boner for all the new ladies of Showtime (see: Toni Collette, Edie Falco).

Yeah, I think it's a foregone conclusion that she's winning ... but do you know why?
How many of you know how the Emmys work? They are almost completely different from the Globes and the SAGs.

No it won't. I can assure you of this.
But it WILL be back in Comedy Series, along with Modern Family and 30 Rock. Who joins them?

I think this is the year "The Big Bang Theory" will finally break through into this category.
"Modern Family," as the defending champ, is obviously the current frontrunner. But "30 Rock" has been on fire this season. I feel like with the right episode submissions, it can win again.

Nominations are based on a popular vote. Then each actor submits a sample episode of their "best work" on which voters are supposed to base their decision.
Laura Linney will obviously submit the pilot of "The Big C," which the kind of big dramatic final scene that the Emmys love. This race was dunzo the moment the show premiered last August.

Right? When I saw the pilot, I was like - Emmy number four, done and dusted. The other girls will try, but they just can't. That pilot might as well have been titled EMMYBAIT.
But who's making it into Comedy Actress? Right now, I have ...
1. Laura Linney
2. Edie Falco
3. Tina Fey
4. Amy Poehler
5. Toni Colette
6. Lea Michele
7. Courteney Cox
8. Woman from Hot in Cleveland
9. Woman from Hot in Cleveland
10. Woman from Hot in Cleveland
But is it too much to hope and pray that Courteney FINALLY gets nominated for an Emmy?

Is it just me or does it feel like Lea Michele's nomination is on really shaky ground at this point? With some of the "Glee" lust now subsided (and this really uneven season), we know it's definitely not getting as many nominations as last year. Obviously, Jane Lynch and Chris Colfer will be back, but Matthew Morrison has no shot at all in my opinion. I know the Golden Globes nominated all four of them, but they're star ****ers. I could see Courteney Cox possibly taking Michele's nomination (or maybe Toni Colette's -- does anyone pay attention to that show anymore?).

That brings up something interesting - who is making it into Comedy Actor?

Well, definitely Jim Parsons, Alec Baldwin and Steve Carrell. If another season of "Curb Your Enthusiasm" airs before the eligibility date, then Larry David is automatically in, too. But fortunately, "Monk" is done and Tony Shalhoub is finally out of here!
That leaves two to three open slots available. One of them definitely belongs to William H. Macy for "Shameless." Matt LeBlanc is at least a contender for "Episodes," thought its ratings are pitiful. I guess Matthew Perry always has a shot, even though reviews for "Mr. Sunshine" have not been kind. Obviously, Matthew Morrison got nominated last year, but I'm just not feeling it this season.

Lea Michelle got a nom last year is just
I hope the Emmy voters don't ride on the hype of Glee anymore.
And for Couteney, if she can't get a nom for the potrayal of Monica Geller, then hell no, i don't think she'll get one for Cougar Town.
My Pick for Best Comedy Actress are:
- Tina Fey
- Betty White
- Edie Falco
- Valerie Bertinelli (Hot In Cleveland) --> if they pick the right episode
- Amy Poehler
- ......
i dunno, and i'll leave it empty, cos i don't see The Big C yet.
For actors, if only Modern Family submit Ty Burrel as Lead Actor maybe he has a shot.
So i'll pick
- Alec Baldwin
- Jim Parsons
- Steve Carrell
- Ed O'Neill
- ....
- ....
i watch the pilot of Mr Sunshine and it's ehh., i don't think he will make it to the Emmy.
For Supporting Actress:
- Jane Lynch
- Jenna Krakowski
- Sofia Vergara
- Julie Bowden
- Jenna Fischer
-...
For Supporting Actors
- Chris Colfer
- Steve Tyler Ferguson
- Eric Stonestreet
- Ty Burrel
- Tracy Morgan
- ....
Best Comedy Series
- 30 Rock
- Modern Family
- GLEE
- The Big Bang Theory
- Parks and Recreation
- The Office
and for Drama series, God, please let it be Boardwalk Empire, i'm so tired of Mad Men

Community far and away deserves a nomination, but it won't get it. These award shows are so political.
Busy Phillips also deserves a nod for best Supporting Actress in a comedy, but I'm sure she'll be overlooked as well. I also think Weeds had a great season this year and Julia Stiles deserves a nom for her guest spot on Dexter, but that'll never happen either.
Why must I love such unrecognized shows.

supa - I think Macy (and Shameless) are going Drama. We won't know until the FYCs start rolling out, though.
Comedy Actor confuses me. There are three men LOCKED AND LOADED (and we all know Carell's winning), but who will occupy those last two slots?
As I see it ...
1) Steve Carell
2) Jim Parsons
3) Alec Baldwin
and then I'm like, what? I do think that Glee won't be as loved as it was last year, so Morrison's spot is up for grabs (thankfully). But who has enough power to push him out?
- Can Californication do what Friday Night Lights did last year and get Duchovny to finally be nominated?
- Will people take Joel McHale seriously enough as a lead to nominate him?
- Will any of HBO's lead contenders - Thomas Jane, Jason Schwartman, the two guys from How to Make It In America - fight their way through?
- What about any CBS guys? Parson's co-star, Johnny Galecki, has been working in this business for more than fifteen years. Can he take advantage of a weak year? Josh Radnor from HIMYM? The guy from Mike and Molly?
- Is Matthew Perry really getting it? MR. Sunshine hasn't been that critically acclaimed, and it has no buzz - it would kind of be a Kirstie Alley in Veronica's Closet situation.
- What about his former co-star? Have enough people been watching Episodes?
Man, Comedy Lead Actor is depressing. Who else wishes that all four Modern Family guys would go lead?

"Community" is the best comedy on TV right now (with the possible exception of "30 Rock"). When it will finally be recognized?! Danny Pudi is genius and needs an Emmy NOW.

Has a half hour show ever gone to the comedy categories before, though? I feel like Showtime is going to try and take advantage of the situation like they'd done in the past with "Nurse Jackie."

Courtney Cox deserves a nomination for "Cougar Town" for playing the character Jules.... She was robbed of a nomination on Friends too...

Please! He is so funny on "Community." But do you think he is even in the conversation? My instincts would definitely lead me toward Larry David, Matt LeBlanc and David Duchovny as the next three. Though I guess weirder things have happened... (Jemaine Clement, anyone?)
