So, I've been noticing lately the VAST similarities between Katy Perry and Rihanna and their music and even in their Charting lives! please read my list and tell me what you think...

1. I Kissed A Girl went #1 and immediately after Disturbia went #1
2. California Gurls goes #1 and immediately after Love the Way You Lie hits #1
3. immediately after LTWYL hits #1, Teenage Dream hits #1
4. What's My Name and Only Girl hit #1 and a week after OG, Firework hits #1

Sure, not that weird, they just release their music at the same time...but there's more....

5. Rihanna's Good Girl Gone Bad has a song called Question Existing, in which the chorus goes "Who am I living for?" and Katy Perry's teenage dream has a song called, Who Am I Living For? very similar in content. lol

6. Rihanna's Rated R has a song about dicks, Rude Boy, and Katy Perry's Teenage Dream has Peacock (keep in mind...same writer)

7. Katy Perry's Teenage Dream has Last Friday Night (TGIF) a party song anthem about the weekend, and Rihanna's Loud has Cheers, a similar song.

8. Katy Perry uses the word California in the chorus for California Gurls and Rihanna does the same in California King Bed (Sure totally random, but I just thought it was funny lol)

9. Both CAG and Umbrella featured rappers of a very high stature (lol not that weird either, i guess that's just a regular thing for pop artists to do).

Alright well call me crazy, but there are some striking similarities (albeit some of my examples were stupid) 1-7 i think are the more reasonable things I found.

I think the similarities are just coincidences. In terms of their songs being similar, as you mentioned, some of them have the same writers. And the similar words/phrases are extremely common. In terms of style, hair, etc. they're both best friends so I wouldn't doubt they're sharing clothes and tips with eachother. The songs hitting #1 around the same time, that is weird and I noticed that as well in the past, but I just think that is a very weird coincidence.
