I'm sorry, but Tyler has been bashed for his "coonery" by his own people. Didn't Terence Howard say that he had a hard time taking Tyler's movies seriously because it was a borderline minstrel show? Just like Twilight and Transformers, the Madea movies are not Oscar-worthy. Are they entertaining? Yes. But not something you throw accolades to.

And Taraji P. Henson is an Oscar nominated actress. She was nominated for the right role, and I can't think of any other instances where she was deserving of another nomination.

Alfre Woodard is also an Oscar nominee.

Now I think Kimberly Elise will get her recognition in due time. Same with Thandie Newton. I really do not think the Oscars are racist. The fact that someone who is known for playing "Ugly Wanda" and an actress known for dissing skinny women are Oscar winners is telling, IMO. Blacks are minorities, so of course they won't be recognized as much as Caucasians. That goes for Asians (or any other minority) as well.

That movie was over-the-top and it was bashed by too many critics for it to be recognized. It didn't stand a chance.

It's for Blacks (well just minorities period actually) to break into major Hollywood roles anyways, so naturally as a result white people will continue to dominate the Oscars as long as they are the majority.

Most roles are for white people so obviously they will dominate the Oscar, and seriously, last year I saw no black person deserving a nomination.

Oh, and Anna Kendrick was amazing on Up in the Air.

I think that had more to do with people not being ready to reward Steven Spielberg than with their being a racial bias, although that was definitely in play.

I find that appalling, too, but it seems that the Oscars have come along way since then. I think they are in a better position now than they were 25 years ago. Denzel Washington, Halle Berry, Jamie Foxx, Morgan Freeman, Jennifer Hudson, Forest Whitaker and Mo'Nique all represented our race fairly within the past ten years.

Although obviously my views and the Academy's are different, I wouldn't have considered Toy Story an adapted screenplay, as it was not a written work before it was created. It was an original screenplay based on characters created in the past. For Colored Girls actually was an adapte screenplay, as it was created from a highly critically-acclaimed play.

As someone who's seen all of this year's actresses in their nominated works, I can safely say that both Kimberly Elise and Thandie Newton out-acted the hell out of Annette Benning, and Jennifer Lawrence.

Well if all the black producers and directors in Hollywood are investing in these sort of projects (Tyler Perry, Big Mommas House, White Chicks etc.), then we can't exactly complain if we don't get a load of Oscar nods...

The main problem lies in the scarcity of good roles offered to minority groups. AMPAS has been willing to reward black performers when they excel in good roles, but those roles have to exist in the first place.

1) the women from FCG would not be competing with Bening and Lawrence; they were all campaigned as Supporting Actress.

2) Bening was always getting nominated; she had too much working in her favor. (Comeback role, more likeable of the couple, married to a Hollywood LEGEND, gave a arguably superior performance in Mother and Child, also this year, etc.)

3) Lawrence carried her movie, a very small one, all the way to the Kodak Theatre. She was getting rewarded for that; add to that she had the 'unknown' factor working in her favor - many people had never heard of her before that.

4) If you want to complain about the lack of recognition for the performances of FCG, that blame goes squarely to its writer/director, who failed to give his actresses actual characters to embody. [Funnily enough, the Supporting Actress winner was the definition of a two-note character - but the women in FCG only had about 1.5 notes amongst them. Again, not their fault.)

I think the problem is that the loud minority are overshadowing the unspoken majority when it comes to topics like this. Most people don't really care about the race of someone winning an Oscar.

Race isn't everything. The Oscars are not that important. What does it matter the colour of someones skin is darker or lighter? If their performance wan't as good another persons then why should they win that award? Just because they are black? The white people bringing it up are ****-stirrers and some people just want any excuse to bring up the race card. People that constantly play the race card annoy me to no end, how can anyone demand people ignore something and have complete equality when you constantly bring it up. Skin colour is not important. Cultural heritage and your family certainly is. But not how dark your skin is.

I'm quite sure that all those multi-millionaires are not that bothered by the Oscars, it's nice to have but it is not necessary. I don't care much about the Oscars nor do I categorize people by their race when I am watching an award show or anything else for that matter, I barely notice it at all actually. Talent and personality speak louder than your skin colour.
