1) the women from FCG would not be competing with Bening and Lawrence; they were all campaigned as Supporting Actress.
2) Bening was always getting nominated; she had too much working in her favor. (Comeback role, more likeable of the couple, married to a Hollywood LEGEND, gave a arguably superior performance in
Mother and Child, also this year, etc.)
3) Lawrence carried her movie, a very small one, all the way to the Kodak Theatre. She was getting rewarded for that; add to that she had the 'unknown' factor working in her favor - many people had never heard of her before that.
4) If you want to complain about the lack of recognition for the performances of FCG, that blame goes squarely to its writer/director, who failed to give his actresses actual characters to embody. [Funnily enough, the Supporting Actress winner was the definition of a two-note character - but the women in FCG only had about 1.5 notes amongst them. Again, not their fault.)
