Back to her old haunts... but drug-free Amy Winehouse looks better than ever
The trademark ballet slippers, eyeliner and bouffant hair are still there. Regulars at Amy Winehouse's old Camden haunts may not have recognised her though, when she paid a visit to her favourite stomping ground last night. The singer looked like a different person - healthy and happy - as she enjoyed a night out in north London.
Amy stopped by The Hawley Arms before heading to Proud Gallery, where she stayed until three in the morning. But despite the late hour, Amy emerged looking fresh and together, a far cry from her dishevelled and distressed appearances falling out of clubs at the height of her drug and alcohol abuse.
Worrying pictures of the 27-year-old were commonplace as recently as a year ago, but now the star says she's on the straight and narrow - and it shows. Amy was dressed casually in jeans, and a black jacket over a hot pink shirt. Her favourite pink ballet slippers were in pristine condition, compared to the now famous images of her bloodied shoes after a fight with her former husband Blake Fielder-Civil in 2007. Amy is insisting that she has been clean and drug free for a year, after seeing a photo of herself last January looking wild, gaunt and covered in cuts.
She told Look magazine: 'I've finally escaped from hell. Before I came out here I looked at a photo of myself in the paper and was horrified. 'My skin was a spotty mess and I was so pale and skinny. I thought: "Girl, you've got to sort yourself out or you'll be dead soon".'
2011 has been a jetsetting year for the star so far, with trips to Rio and Dubai already under her belt. Earlier this month Amy travelled to Dubai where she performed at the Dubai Festical City Concert Arena. The gig didn't go to plan though, and the Valerie singer ended up being booed off stage. Her spokesperson explained at the time: 'Amy had technical problems and couldn't hear herself during the gig. One of her in-ear monitors wasn't working properly.'
In January she performed in Brazil, and stayed in the luxurious £700-per-night Santa Teresa hotel. She reportedly pocketed a cool £5 million for five shows in the South American country.
