I actually liked the Telephone video a lot, but it was because I stayed away from all the hype. Lesson for artists: don't hype the video or there WILL be people who are going to end up being disappointed NO MATTER WHAT.
Telephone was an homage to Quentin Tarantino... have you ever seen a Tarantino movie?
I thoroughly enjoyed breaking down the meaning of Telephone.
It was so deep and less obvious, and the product placements were also used for more than just money-making.
To simply underline Britney's takings to the advertisement, clearly over looks the initial purpose of them.
I totally agree with your other comment too. Each were used, for their own reason.
And, I'm not comparing. I'm using both as examples, and making justifications for the use.
Both were very creative in their concepts
Telephone is about fear of suffocation (think about the lyrics... worried about a boyfriend calling too much), so the video is stuffed with product placement, just like society and the music industry are. And then in the final scene at the diner, the American flag is everywhere and is basically reduced to just another brand.
Think about it. Suffocation.
Chains
Jail cell
Cigarette glasses covering eyes
***** Wagon, overcrowded because of the giant hats
***** Wagon, overcrowded because of the giant hats
Video drenched in brand oversaturation
Crowded diner
American flags covering EVERYTHING
Polaroid photobooth
Police closing in
Unless they were fans, they may not have known that 'Telephone' was the 'Fear of Suffocation' meaning from "The Fame Monster."
You can't convince them all. Some won't, and don't want, to ever understand Lady Gaga

Off topic, but do you know if the Telephone music video will be continued?
