ok, this is more of a local urban legend.... but it has scared the living daylights out of me ever since I can remember....
About 10 miles from my childhood home there is a cemetery called Hopkins Cemetery. An urban legend involving 3 boys entering that cemetery exists. The legend goes that one night in 1975, the 3 boys entered the cemetery eager to dig up a dead body just for ***** and giggles. When the 3 boys dug up the dead body, they were in for a scary surprise. The dead body of a man was... not so dead. The dead body seemingly came to life and pulled one of the 3 boys into the coffin with him, scaring the other 2 boys. The other 2 boys slammed the coffin lid shut and ran from the scene. The next day, the dead body of the 1 boy was found in the coffin... but no sign of the man whom was buried there. 3 Days later, one of the other 2 boys mysteriously died. 5 days later, the 3rd boy mysteriously died. Additionally, the two boys died at 11:00 PM, the same time which the 1st boy was pulled into the coffin. The legend goes that the spirit of the man and the boy who was pulled into the coffin lurk around the cemetery awaiting victims. If you enter the cemetery at 11:00 PM, you can apparently see the two spirits, waiting to take you to the grave with them.
Since first hearing that legend, I WILL NEVER go near that cemetery. It truly is a spooky place (all cemeteries are, but this one especially).... now, when I asked my dad about the cemetery (he also grew up in this same area), he said.... "I DON'T WANT YOU EVER GOING NEAR THAT CEMETERY, EVER! YOU HEAR ME!" My father was born in the 50s, meaning that he was alive when this event allegedly happened. That is all we have ever spoke of that cemetery....
Localized legends are even scarier than widespread legends (aka Bigfoot, etc.) if you ask me.
