AOL Music: Top 14 Valentine's Day Love Songs

Quote:
14) 'Hey There Delilah' - Plain White T's
A song about love lost, the Plain White T's' 'Hey There Delilah' is so beautiful and uplifting, we had to include it on the list. The song, from the band's 2005 debut, 'All That We Needed,' was written after singer Tom Higgenson met, and became smitten with, a girl name Delilah DiCrescenzo. Unfortunately, she couldn't return the affection. Higgenson eventually came to terms with the heartbreak. He says, "If we had lived happily ever after, then what would my next song be about?"
13) 'No One' - Alicia Keys
Released as the first single from Alicia Keys' third studio album, 'As I Am,' 'No One' is undoubtedly the most popular song Keys has ever released. Lyrics like "You and me together, through the days and nights/I don't worry 'cause everything's gonna be all right" say it all.
12) 'Halo' - Beyoncé
'I Am ... Sasha Fierce' had many hits for Beyoncé Knowles ('Single Ladies'), but only one sticks like meat on the bones during Valentine's Day: 'Halo' is one popular song. Florence and the Machine covered it, New York rockers Harper Blynn play their melodic version live from time to time, and the song has been featured as a mash-up with Katrina and the Waves' 'Walking on Sunshine' on 'Glee.'
11) 'I'm Yours' - Jason Mraz
'I'm Yours,' from Jason Mraz's third release, 'We Sing. We Dance. We Steal Things,' placed the singer/ songwriter on the map with its unabashed sentimentality. The song stayed on top of the Billboard Hot 100 for a record 76 weeks, beating out former front-runner LeAnn Rimes' 'How Do I Live.'
10) 'Read My Mind' - The Killers
Off their second full length, 'Sam's Town,' 'Read My Mind' is a love note for lovers apart. The video, shot in Tokyo, still exudes the were fans, too, and remixed the track, which appears on their 2007 release 'Disco Four.'
09) 'Love Story' - Taylor Swift
Written by Taylor Swift, 'Love Story' is a lyrical fairy tale. Of course, all of Swift's songs come from real-life experience. "This is a song I wrote when I was dating a guy who wasn't exactly the popular choice," says Swift. His situation was a little complicated, but I didn't care. I started this song with the line "This love is difficult, but it's real." When I wrote the ending to this song, I felt like it was the ending every girl wants to go with her love story. It's the ending that I want."
08) 'You're Beautiful' - James Blunt
No. 8 on our Valentine's Day love songs list, this 2005 release is a powerful ballad about an intense love affair. Taken from James Blunt's debut, 'Back to Bedlam,' it's the first song by a British artist to reach No. 1 in the US since Elton John's 1997 hit 'Candle in the Wind' and one of those perfect Valentine's Day dedications.
07) 'Baby' - Justin Bieber
Justin Bieber's 'U Smile' is sweet, but 'Baby' tugs at the heartstrings a little bit more. It's prepubescent love. It's adult love. Either way, it's about a simple crush or finding your true love. This song brought on the 'Bieber Fever' full force.
06) 'Underneath It All' - No Doubt
This is No Doubt, sweet like a swirly lollipop. It's like all the best chocolate pieces in the box. Originally written for singer Gwen Stefani's husband, Gavin Rossdale, 'Underneath' takes a traditional love song and stirs it up with reggae dance beats.
05) 'Knock You Down' - Keri Hilson
For years, Mary J. Blige and Britney Spears, but she really wanted to be a recording artist -- and she knocked it out with this debut single. The danceable love song was an instant hit. Of course, it helped to have friends Kanye and Ne-Yo in the mix, too.
04) 'No Air' - Jordin Sparks
This duet paired Season Six 'American Idol' winner Jordin Sparks with Chris Brown in harmony. From the vocals to the meaning behind the song, 'No Air' attests to how hard it is to live more specifically, breathe -- without your one true love.
03) 'Hero' - Enrique Iglesias
No matter what you think of Enrique Iglesias, or even the celeb-heavy video with the singer's then-love, Jennifer Love Hewitt, as well as Mickey Rourke as the villain, 'Hero' is a beautiful song. The song reached deeper than most and was one of the most played on the radio to honor the heroes of 9/11.
02) 'Umbrella' - Rihanna
Love is sharing your umbrella. Rihanna shares her umbrella in love, singing, "There's no distance in between our love/So go on and let the rain pour/I'll be all you need and more." Rain gear manufacturer Totes even put some Rihanna umbrellas on the market in honor of the song.
01) 'Bleeding Love' - Leona Lewis
Co-written by Jesse McCartney and OneRepublic's Ryan Tedder (Beyoncé, Adele), Leona Lewis' debut immediately shot to No. 1 and stayed there. Originally written for McCartney's third album, the soulful tune showcased Simon Cowell's latest discovery in best form.
