If that were strictly the case (and I'm not denying that there are long-term benefits to being charitable) then she could have picked any cause in the ****ing book. If her
only goal was to become as huge as possible then she would have done well to pick a cause that literally nobody is offended by instead of something that still turns off a large contingent of people.
I think it's incredibly delusional to think that she's somehow pandering to the gays just for the sake of furthering her commercial aims. Guess what? Gay niche artists are not that successful. That's not the road to mainstream success. If she really was as cynical/exploitative as you seem to believe then she wouldn't be pandering to a minority group that makes up less than 10% of the total population.
I do think she is more shrewd than most of her especially passionate fans would like to believe, but that doesn't mean she literally has no principles to mitigate that shrewdness.
