No, we're not. They are.
And besides, it was already mentioned that Harry Potter would have been a MUCH better choice if we are talking about something truly contemporary. And god knows there are HUNDREDS of contemporary fiction books that they could have chosen before Twilight. Hell, even a few that were nearly as successful as Twilight. The Lovely Bones, for example.
I don't even really hate Twilight that much (well, at least not the books), but if Twilight is our best possible choice for contemporary fiction, then fiction writing is a dying art.

I would much rather read Twilight for a class than be forced to read what have to be the dullest textbooks on earth... It's like textbook authors are aiming to make learning a tedious, boring, and disheartening process. :]
I agree that Harry Potter would have been a MUCH better choice, but we don't even know how the book is fit into the curriculum.... So perhaps Twilight better serves the purpose the professor is aiming for.
The Lovely Bones didn't become as much of a sudden craze as Twilight has, and Harry Potter is in a league of its own. An entire class could be taught about Harry Potter. Lol.
No one said Twilight was the best choice for contemporary fiction, but the professor had to have some reason behind choosing it. Additionally, I'd sure hope fiction wasn't a dying art... because that's going to be my profession someday...
