Plus, yes, then there's nothing to look forward to. Performing in the middle is perfect for building up some suspense but not making it be unbearable to the point where nothing could live up to the hype.

I wish the Grammys would end some of their stupid traditions and not award people because they are overdue for an award. Eminem should have won AOTY in 2001...not 2011

Even though he hasn't won, I'm just sayin' ahead of time. If they want to give it to him they should call it Album of the Year (but really we're taking your entire career into consideration)

This is true of all awards, though. Voters frequently take into consideration how "due" a nominee is.

It doesn't seem fair, but most people don't complain when it's their favorite who is finally being recognized.

Well, If Gaga is nominated again next year she will be "overdue", and I'd rather see her win for a full length album for some reason. lol

But that's a long time from now.. BTW might not even get nominated.

You shouldn't expect Gaga to win, it's Eminem's year. It's amazing in and of itself that she not only got an AOTY nom last year, but another one for the re-release of that album this year.

Maybe Nicole can add to this/deny this, but I don't feel like the Oscars operate in the same way at all. Annette would easily Best Actress this year if they operated like the Grammys, but she won't.

If Eminem doesn't win it will be a complete shock.

Funny, but i've been hoping that Gaga dosen't win for the exact same reason you just crircized them for. If they deny her two years in a row and she murders the music scene with BTW, they'll have no choice but to award her with Album of the Year....

But more importantly, i don't want her to win this year because i'm 99% positive they won't give the award to the same musician two years in a row, no matter how great the album is. I guess this ties in to your overall point though, since they refuse to make the quality of the "work" the primary deciding factor.

The Oscars totally operate like this. Sandra Bullock won last year for all the goodwill she'd accumulated and for her nearly two-decades-long career as one of Hollywood's biggest stars.

Anette is overdue but she just can't compete with the juggernaut that is Black Swan.

The Oscars do in a way operate like that. Look how long it took Martin Scorese to finally win best director.... and Eddie Murphy lost because of Norbit a few years ago....

That's why I said "frequently," not always. The Oscars give out make-up awards all the time.

Even in Murphy's case he lost to the veteran actor (Alan Arkin) who had gotten nominations decades ago but never actually won.

There are always outside influences playing a huge role in determining awards winners. It's all very political.

How could Sandra be overdue?! That was her first and only nomination.....

He'll win because he's overdue not because it was the best album. And that's one of the many things they need to change about the show. It was a mediocre album, mediocre reviews. And it shouldn't win. Tis all.

Overdue is the wrong word...but it felt like she deserved it for all these years in the business...plus she'd been flopping for nearly a decade and then came back with a vengeance to score the 2 biggest hits of her career in the same year at age 45. It was more about good will than being overdue.
