Really good read (thanks for the transcript Nicole!)
I mean, I don't have a lot to say. The article is very well written and all the praise they throw her is quite measured and doesn't sound at all like rabid stans, something who people writing about Gaga tend to do.
I would just like to note on the mental illness thing. Time will tell how well she will manage the larger-than-life status she's achieving. At least we know that from a paparazzi and personal life privacy, she's been impecably cautious.
In fact, in my honest opinion, one of the biggest accomplishments of her career is how she worked so hard for people to be obsessed about her work and don't give a **** about her personal life. That's a huge step really, especially in this sea of attention *****s.
I became a die hard Gaga supporter after watching her live. The caliber of her singing and dancing and communication with the crowd is something I have never seen, and I've been to a LOT of concerts from all kinds of bands and musicians.
And it was precisely there, in the midst of the juggernaut that she is on stage, that I began realizing: she's just a uber-cool hipster from New York, travelling around the world with her drunk best friends, partying hard and playing the part of biggest pop star in the world. For the first time in my life, I thought to myself "DAMN, it must be FUN to do what she does". She has an unimaginable passion for what she's doing, and that can only take her far.
Further down her career, when people will start demanding her crossing over to different genres, she'll have no problem transitioning. I've always said she'll outlast ALL of her contemporaries by decades really, with maybe the exception of Beyoncé.
So yeah, I wouldn't worry too much about the mental illness thing. She's always surrounded by friends, whether it is Starlight, the SPW, her boyfriend, her family or her producers who she parties a lot with. Also, she seems SO calculating, much like Madonna was throughout the 90s, to have a significant, career threatening slump. She does need to be careful with drugs though.
She makes it so easy to stan for her, really.
