again, what does this have to do with the topic? of course people would try to guess a song's peak because no one outside this forum knows anything about sales while everyone understands what "#1" means.

this thread is about what's more important, if a song sells more or charts higher. people may know nothing about sales, but they are more important because they show a song's popularity, while peaks are just about the competition.

Well, the thread can be interpreted in different ways. I'm speaking as a voice of the general public. And the general public would "care" or remember a peak more than sales, deeming it more important. You're speaking as the voice of industry execs. Like Phoenix says, "It is what it is."

You are definitely undermining sales as an important gauge of a songs popularity. It is true that people are more aware of peaks more than sales but that's just because information on peaks are immediately available while sales take a longer period of time before fully appreciated. And honestly, longevity should be more appreciated than chart positions.

Is "3" a more popular song than "I'm Yours"? 3 debuted at number 1 because of the hype, not because it is the most liked song during that week. Sales is more dependent on radioplay and the public's reception. I'm Yours only peaked at #6, so there was never a week where it was the most popular song in the country, but it was held its status for a veeeerrry long time. The 5 million sales justify that. Not even a top 5 song, but I doubt anyone could defy its impact

I vote for Peak. Not that I don't care about sales, but for me it's just beautiful to see a lot of #1s in an artist's catalog. Just like even though I don't really like Rihanna that much, I like the fact that when I look at her Wikipedia page, I see a lot of #1s.
