Does she do well in Japan?

This is decent.

Her last album only charted at #53 there but her team seems content on keeping her in Japan for some reason.

She does pretty decently, her album was on the charts for awhile as well as the deluxe edition of it. And all her autograph signings and concerts there have been packed. She's just a new face.

But her USA album is coming out this year, she just filmed the video for "Love Is The Answer" which is the first single.

This is surprisingly good. I would like to see a (relevant) US artist reach out to top J-Pop producers. I bet the combination of Eastern producers and Western song-writers would result in a fresh sound for the US market.
