We need to wait. Take a breath and wait for the single. We're all judging it as if we've heard it 1000 times. It could be great or awful, but there's no point judging it yet.
People say 'she's going in the wrong direction' but we dont know that yet, we haven't heard it. 2 weeks and we can hear it/make a decision. At the moment, we don't know anything apart from lyrics, which most of the public don't give a damn about anyway.
If you don't like the song, don't listen to it, and try the album when it comes out instead.

At least now if the final product is actually great she won't have to deal with the whole "those lyrics " thing, cuz they'll be old news by then.

Exactly. Good strategy actually, because now people will be curious/want to hear it.
Still, the lyrics are really campy, tacky, and tasteless.

That's just a silly song about having a good time. It doesn't aim to be the anthem of our generation.
The funny thing is, Gaga plans to "liberate" people, but she was doing just that. The sheer force of her personality, talent and catchy music already made millions feel liberated by her. She doesn't actually need to sing "If you're gay, it's okay, you were born this way."

But didn't Ryan tell you the whole album wasn't like that?

This. I've been thinking this but I could never put it into words. I feel more liberated by music that makes me happy and makes everyone feel like having a good time. People already hear what she has to say at her shows and in interviews, so why is it necessary to straight up sing about it? It just seems forced and makes it look like she is trying too hard.

It wasn't Ryan but it was a 100% reliable source.
Anyway, I'm not talking about the whole album, but what I do have in front of me right now - which are these lyrics.

Does anyone know what the whole album will sound like? Will it be more or less like The Fame + The Fame Monster?

This has always been a source of trepidation for me. For instance, often times it's the movies dead-set on tackling an "important" subject that end up being the worst.
But, at the end of the day, I know what she's capable of bringing musically, so I'm reserving judgment.
The lyrics are self-serious, but she's been able to pull off self-serious with a tongue-in-cheek style before. She's kind of like the Tarantino of pop music.
(Hmm, that comparison actually kind of works in more ways than one.)

I made that into a Top Tweet once
It's true, his movies are 100% ripoffs of what's been done before. If movie fans made those childish "she copied her!" comparison pics that pop fans make, it would shock people just how much he copies.

Right. It's a pastiche -- pop culture in a blender. The very act of blending becomes its own new creation with a unique, identifiable style.
Then again, I've always found the whole "so and so isn't original" to be the dumbest ****ing criticism possible, since there's nothing that's truly original. All art draws upon some influence before it.
You're either good at what you do and turn your influences around into a quality product... or you're not and you don't.

The lyrics aren't awful, they're just clichéd. When you read them you may have been disappointed, but can you honestly say you were surprised? We knew the song would be like this.
If it's going to be an anthem then I'm curious to know how it will work. On the surface the lyrics don't appear to be catchy, they're more suited to the structure of a ballad.

No because I've been complaining about the lyrics since the VMAs.
I was hoping she'd surprise us and they wouldn't actually be part of the song. But I knew they would be part of it.

Hmmm, it could work for an up tempo. After all, there are sources saying this could be the "I Will Survive" of 2011, and those lyrics are pretty clichéd.
