Green Day: 'American Idiot' tops 6 million in the US
Green Day's 2004 album American Idiot tops the 6 million mark in sales this week. The album won a Grammy for Best Rock Album. It spawned two top 10 hits: "Boulevard Of Broken Dreams" and "Wake Me Up When September Ends." Most impressively, it inspired a Broadway show. This is Green Day's second best-selling album. Dookie, from 1994, has sold 8,048,000 copies.
And WOOOWWW @ Dookie selling that much without nearly as many huge hits. Its amazing how much albums back then sold.
Both albums had four huge hits. Dookie defined a generation and aged better than American Idiot too, though I'm pretty sure if sales last decade were as good as they were in the 90's AI probably would have sold close to the amount Dookie sold.
