I'm pretty sure everyone knows that Britney has been around much longer. The main comparison is Britney's latest releases vs. Gaga's, and Britney's upcoming album era vs. Gaga's. You can't debate Britney vs. Gaga as artists in technical terms because Gaga is only 3 years into her career and it was a totally different industry back when Britney was a new artist. You can't objectively compare 13 years of Britney's career vs. 3 years of Gaga's. When you're comparing these 2 basically incomparable artists, it all comes down to opinions and what they've done recently.

He didn't compare. He stated that ultimately Britney is the real winner in the end because she's on her 12th year, and she's selling like no other in the industry. That said, it doesn't effect GaGa's success at all, neither does it downgrade it, it's a simple recognition that Britney's a much more powerful artist than Lady GaGa. No one knows if GaGa will be able to sell as much as Britney is selling these days in 10 years, well maybe she will sell well, but compete with 2021's current girls and overshadow them like Britney is doing right now? Don't think so.

It's so annoying that people are pitting Britney and Gaga against eachother when it is clear that they have nothing but respect for eachother, Gaga loves Britney and acknowledges that she is way ahead of her and they have even worked together.
It's so uneccesary. The media just wants them to feud.

This feels right. The goal is to dethrone Britney, sell as much as Brit, make as big a cultural impact as Brit. Britney doesn't seem to be really care what's going on. I think that's part of the reason why she's so successful.
She found her niche, she knows what she's good at, and she KEEPS doing it.

Britney is more established, correct. Britney "wins" on those terms because you're comparing an established artist to a new artist, like people comparing Britney during her Oops... era to Madonna. I'm sure a lot of pressed Madge stans hated the comparisons and hoped for Britney's demise the same way you all desperately want Gaga to fail. But still, a lot of people thought Britney was better, particularly young people that were growing up on Britney and not Madonna. Go figure, huh? A person with any of kind of foresight can see that Gaga IS the Madonna/Britney of this new generation. She's clearly not going anywhere, and to a lot of people, Gaga is better than Britney. They are not wrong for thinking so any more than Britney fans were wrong for liking her better than Madonna.
On a related note, do most Britney fans have a legit reason for hating Gaga beyond the fact that she's new, VERY popular, and is getting the same comparisons to Madonna that Britney got? It's not like there can only be one or the other... Gaga's presence is not a threat to Britney, and Britney's presence is not a threat to Gaga. They will both continue to be huge and successful regardless of each other. So why all the animosity specifically towards Gaga and her fans? I doubt that Gaga's fanbase, being a NEW fanbase, had anything against Britney before her stanbase declared war against Lady Gaga for no apparent reason.

GaGa's fans act and claim that her achievements are untouchable. She is a creative artist, a really creative artist, she goes a little overboard (which sometimes comes off annoying to me), but the problem is most of her fans are blinded by her "creativity." It's like "OKAY, that was a good performance but darling, she did NOT create performing... no, she didn't re-invent theatrics... ah, honey, no, she isn't the only singer to use the piano on stage..." and the list keeps growing. When you give an artist more than they deserve it becomes annoying, and what makes the Britney stanbase furious is that GaGa's stans act as if Britney never existed, and that she isn't one of GaGa's inspiration. We don't attack GaGa because of her current successes, it's not like Britney is flopping, she's #1 in 17 countries as we speak, we attack GaGa because many of her stans go overboard with complimenting her by discrediting Britney. It's war now, and no one can stop it, not you, not me. Britney and GaGa stans will rip eachothers' heads off in 2011. Britney will debut big. GaGa's stans will nag and shade her mimed performance and criticise her as an artist by the usual lines Beyonce and Christina's have marked (her not writing her own lyrics, lip-synching, etc), then GaGa will arrive big as well, and Britney's stans will laugh at GaGa's debut, then GaGa will domintate because she has the freshness advantage, and Britney's stans will get mad and pull out old receipts. See? It won't stop, and it's ridiculous. If GaGa's stans respected Britney from the beginning (which they should) none of this would be happening.

I agree with 90% of what you said, but the Britney's fans try to discredit and belittle Gaga the same way that Gaga's fans do, which in turn makes them stan even harder and overpraise her even more. I also believe that besides stan behavior, Gaga's huge success plays into Britney fans hating her, or else why is it always Gaga and Beyonce under fire by Britney fans while all the less popular but equally pretentious pop stars (like Ke$ha) get a free pass. But you're right, it's a never-ending cycle and each side blames the other for starting it.

This is what I don't get. Why do people who like Gaga have to care one way or another about Britney? Gaga has been inspired by and drawn influence from a plethora of pop stars before her, but this is one comparison that I do not get. at. all.
What are their similarities beyond both being blonde pop stars who some times sing about sex? And even then their takes on sexuality are pretty different. Madonna comparisons I can understand, Britney comparisons I do not.
I don't hate on Britney, I think she's made some awesome pop music, and I understand being irritated if she is being bashed, but I don't think she's owed some fealty by the fans of other artists who don't have much of anything to do with her.

Britney and Gaga will both be huge this era, so does it even matter who sells slightly more?
They're both more popular in different demographics.

GaGa herself admits Britney is one of her biggest inspirations. There might not be many similarities between them, but if you think about it for a while, you'd realize that GaGa wouldn't exist in the music industry without Britney, just like Britney wouldn't without Madonna---they take SO much from each other.

I love how Gaga is such a Britney stan. She even called Britney The Queen Of Pop. She knows the true tea. And they're on different levels.
Like the article said, Britney has been around for over 12 years. I consider Gaga a very very successful NEWBIE.
