This time 20 years ago, the talent that is Pixie Lott graced Earth with her presence for the first time. Since her debut single, Mama Do, was released in summer 2009, she has gone on to break records, sell thousands, release her own fashion line, and even perform to thousands on her very own headline tour at the end of 2010.
'Mama Do (Uh Oh, Uh Oh)' was released in June 2009 and debuted on the official UK charts at #1, making her the youngest female ever to have her first single debut at the top spot, and she still holds that record.
Her second single, 'Boys & Girls' was released in September 2009 to launch off her debut album. A remix of the single was released on saturday, and with just a day of sales, the remix alone managed to push the song up to number 73 on the charts. The next week, after the single's official release, it jumped up to the top spot. This made her not only the youngest artist ever to have her first two singles reach the top spot, but she also now holds the record for the biggest jump to #1. She still holds the record for all the feats mentioned.
Her debut album, 'Turn It Up', was released in September 2009 to positive reviews. It spawned 3 further top 20 singles, 'Cry Me Out' (December 2009, #12), 'Gravity' (March 2010, #20) and Turn It Up (June 2010, #11). The album was re-released with 10 extra tracks including the single 'Broken Arrow', under the title 'Turn It Up Louder' in October 2010. She has also been featured in the charity single 'I Got Soul' which peaked just outside the top 10 early last year.
As of December 2010, her album has sold 720k in the UK alone.
The future looks bright for Pixie. Not only does she have a lead role in a major movie scheduled for release worldwide later this year, but she is set to fly over to the states in spring to release her music in America. Billboard have named her as 'one to watch', and her label, Simon Cowell and even Rihanna predict big things for her.
