This is not meant to come off rude...just spitting some facts out there for you.
FACT #1 Britney did not tour over 100 dates on the Circus Tour. It was 97 dates, grossing 131.8 million to be exact.
FACT #2 She has written plenty of music, if she doesn't use it, she doesn't use it. She as credits next to her name on quite a bit of albums she has done if you bother to research it. Some of her best material she has written are unreleased tracks that the stans and fans alike have seen. Sometimes we shake our heads in amazement that they didn't' decide to use some tracks on the album.
FACT #3 Britney has ALWAYS played a major role in concepts and styling of her music videos. She was the "brain" behind the concept of her massive debut music video, ...Baby One More Time afterall. I don't know what would have happened with her debut if she didn't do the video exactly like she visioned it to be. The original idea of her singing and dancing on a spinning record would've flopped and she said so herself. Britney's concept became a Pop Culture phenomenon with the school girl outfit and all. People don't bother to credit Britney for making some important decisions in her career over the past 12 years that has provided successful results and shaped her into the Icon that she is today. There are several instances such as Jive not wanting to release Toxic as a single, but Britney put her foot down and BOOM! The song and video became one of her signature hits.
FACT #4 Britney's talent (Dancing, singing, writing, producing, composing, directing, gymnastics, acting, etc. have all played a huge role in her success. Those talents have provided her with the skill set needed to put on a hell of a show. Her hard work and determination at the mere age of 16 in the business showed. The girl toured the world ruthlessly for years with hours thrust into working out, rehearsing dance moves/singing, charity work, her FRANCHISE as a whole, and lastly, balancing all that with time for her family on the side.
To be successful and then for on end, you need not just talent, but determination, a little luck, and the "IT" factor. That is why Britney Jean Spears is successful!
And can we stop with this idea that "talent" is defined entirely in terms of vocal talent? And furthermore, can we get rid of this misconception that talented vocalists are only the big voiced, so-called divas ala Whitney Houston? If I read one more silly post talking about Rihanna or Britney's "vocal shortcomings" I will explode. Poor imitations of Whitney are not, at least for me, the hallmark of great singing, and to suggest that "good singing" can only result from these contrived diva-in-training performances would be a huge discredit to the plethora of underrated, presumably "weak vocalists" who actually have interpretive abilities (Whitney and Mariah can't be bothered to focus on the emotion that's driving the track they're singing when they only have three and a half minutes to fit in as many runs as possible), as well decent vocal technique that doesn't have to hide behind glitzy and superfluous vocal puffery.

Not really, it's more about charisma, luck and hard-working maybe
And how recognizable and unique your voice is among the flock of similar vocal styles and sounds of Whitney/Mariah Derivatives... Being different can sometimes be outstanding...

Ke$ha despite common belief is a smart chick, and is very much involved in her songwriting. And she's really not that bad of a singer, some of her songs Blind and The Harold Song. Or, you can just go here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8C61w4nWg9Q
Anyways, she actually can sing fairly well (she's no Beyonce, but she's good). And she writes music. Most artists can sing, are decent at singing and write their songs, or just can do both. A few exceptions are present, of course, but usually they only have one-hit wonders or something. So I think so for the most part.
It's better singing than we're used to from her but to call it proof of talent is a stretch
