Was The Razzie Award Committee Biased Towards Paris Hilton?
Paris Hilton plays Amber Sweet, the surgery and painkiller addicted daughter of a biotech magnate in the underground cult musical "Repo! The Genetic Opera". She is in line of three siblings to inherit GeneCo, a multi-billion dollar biotech company that provides organ transplantation for profits.
Paris was nominated for her role as Amber Sweet in the Worst Supporting Actress category. Not only was she nominated but she won the Razzie award. Other nominees included Carmen Electra, Kim Kardashian, Jenny McCarthy and Lee Sobieski.
Online controversy arose when she won the award because Paris was praised for her role in the film. It all led to accusations that nominations for Hilton's performance were made without having watched the film in question.
Director Darren Lynn Bousman [Saw II- Saw IV] has stated that he refused to audition Paris because she was Paris Hilton. He then took back everything he said because he "broke down, she charmed everyone in the room and left everyone speechless." he also said "there was nobody else who could play the part. she was pitch-perfect and awesome".
Paris had the script smuggled to her while she was serving her prison sentence. She used her time in jail to prepare for the role.
Now, seriously, who voted No? You're going to sit there and say Paris gave a worse performance than Kim Kardashian and Carmen Electra in Disaster Movie?
The Razzies have become a joke. They don't reward the worst in film anymore; they reward whatever will get them the most attention. How else to explain Sandra Bullock winning Worst Actress last year? As if.
