I miss the days when people used to SING on songs. I'm not sure what the **** has gotten into people and now they stan for talentless autotuned trashy people like Kesha. I mean, really?
Pop music needs to return to TALENT status.

i dont know why all the Rihanna stans are agreeing that they wished only people with real vocal talent were succesful, cuz RiRi would be wiped out straight away with Katy, Ke$ha, and Briteny. the fact they can barely sing and all have there own tone is what makes them exciting

I agree, cool essay! In the past artists did great party tunes but they were talented.

Talent does not promise success. Christina can sing, but that does not mean Bionic was deserving of owning the charts. Clearly something was missing from the album. Honestly, I don't know why she wasn't nominated for at least pop vocals at the Grammy's. Nonetheless, missing the days where people could actually sing...well you'd have to go back in time...a long time. However we have great successful singers today amongst some not so great successful acts
Britney Spears cannot sing as well as Christina, but in relation to one another Britney is the sun and Christina is a [tiny]space rock.

I mean, I'm not going to lie, Pop music this year may have been generic and autotuned as hell, but alot of the songs were catchy and I liked them. But it's just pretty sad to see these people getting nominated for Grammy's and sh*t when they couldn't even get on the stage with no props or voice enhancers and deliver a decent vocal performance. I just hope this trend is a quick one and that people start to give talent the spotlight again..
Ok, Im done. LOL.

Consumers don't care how great you can sing if they don't like the songs you're singing. On the flip side, they're more forgiving of you not being the best vocalist if you have a distinctive sound and they do like your music.

Christina has a great voice, but that's it. Britney has an OK voice, but she has the whole package.

Except yes. Britney Spears does NOT have the amount of talent Christina does, and Christina does NOT have the amount of success Britney does. That's how it always been, and most likely always will be. I don't want to turn this into a Britney vs. Christina, because I don't care about either of them. I'm just stating unbiased facts. Great vocalists do not always have the same success of those with lesser to zero talent.

A respectable newspaper (or Music Column) actually mentioned Rihanna, for good
Glad she's getting critical recognition

The technically best singer of the bunch, Lady Gaga, has a deep, mildly nasal delivery that, on hits like “Alejandro,” evokes a more tuneful Madonna.

I don't agree when you imply that Christina doesn't have the whole package, because she does have the whole package as well. She's AN AMAZING singer, she has a great eclectic and diverse catalog of music, she can look freaking breathtaking when she wants to, because she is naturally stunning, and she can dance. Not as good as Britney has danced in the past, but if you check some Burlesque clips, you'll see what I'm saying.
Christina's so damn talented, she co-writes her music, she chooses her themes and visions for her albums, she's just amazing.
And that's why Christina has always had awesome success throughout her career and Bionic will (hopefully) be just a bad/low phase in her career. I like to think that talent will always prevail, in one way or the other.

This article fails to mention Florence + the Machine who did have a hit with DDAO. It also fails to mention Adele, who outsings EVERY artist they mentioned. She did win Best New Artist at the Grammy's and had success with Chasing Pavements. Bionic was a departure from what Xtina normally does and it flopped. Rihanna also sings in a similar "short breath style" in many of her hits like Umbrella & Whats my Name, which the article's author fails to
mention. Selective reporting at it's finest.
