03. Christina Aguilera, Bionic
Standouts: 'You Lost Me', 'Bionic', 'Lift Me Up', 'Desnudate', 'I Am', 'Woohoo', 'Vanity'
Bionic, the highly anticipated comeback from the pop diva, failed to deliver commercially, but it absolutely exceeded expectations from a musical level. Christina Aguilera went back to basic with her prior album, what's the next step? Taking a trip to the future, and messing with electronic beats and robotic sounds. Although, this is the album's theme, influences from her past work can be heard, proving that the singer hasn't abandoned her roots completely. The futuristic 'Bionic' is extremely addictive and should've been released as the lead single, a catchy hook and clever metaphors make this song irresistible. Xtina also shows up in this record, her raunchy and naughty side is even more explicit this time, talking about oral sex (Woohoo), making out with girls and boys at a wild club night (Not Myself Tonight), and taking her clothes off (Desnudate); accompanied by some of the most fascinating beats of the year. The heart of the album, and my personal favorite part of the record, comes very close to the end, Christina strips her soul, and delivers some of the most beautiful ballads of the year. She sounds stunning in the inspirational Linda Perry penned 'Lift Me Up', her voice is very controlled and elegant in the simple yet very clever 'I Am', and her emotion in 'You Lost Me' is breathtaking. The album comes to an end with a celebration to her narcissism, who own's the throne? She asks, Baby Max responds, you do mommy, and I can't argue with that.
The top 2 is coming tonight and possibly the first set of close calls for the top 50 singles of the year. See you all later
