Trends like this one have come and gone before. It's great if ATRL members get to know each other and want to IM or chat, but we're not an IM or chat platform. There are plenty of existing services for people to use.
While the idea is hilarious, I can't imagine any situation that we'll ever have a chat room, or an instant messaging system, or anything else people have asked for like music downloads and *******s, or ATRL ****™.
This is just one little message board on the Internet. We're not AIM or Facebook or The Pirate Bay or RedTube.
But also it's be so awesome.. and it's so easier to use than waiting 20 seconds to do a wall post or just to post in a thread, where regular discussions aren't really allowed except for RT thread.

Uh your little message board got me addicted to it for over half a way that earns something since I don't do anything besides YouTube, download music, hulu, billboard site, and frequent google or wiki searches.
And it's understandable if it's not feasible to host such chat rooms with our current atrl server.
How do you manage to have only 2400s posts in ten years?!?

If you wanna talk in real-time just add each other on AIM or MSN or Facebook or whatever.

It's not so much that the server couldn't handle it. I'm sure it could. But I wouldn't want to add a chat room because I wouldn't want us to be responsible for that. Who wants their chat moderated by ATRL anyway?
In some cases it's just impossible from a tech development angle. Someone earlier suggested an integrated IM/chat system like Facebook Chat. There's no way anything like that would ever happen. Facebook is a billion-dollar company with highly-paid developers who can come up with really complicated things like that. We are a hobby run by a handful of people in their free time from school and work.
Anyway, I've never posted very often, I don't really know why. I got in as moderator back in '01 because I was helping a girl run her TRL site and her message board got merged with ATRL's. I stuck around ever since then but I'm more behind the scenes; I don't have a lot of time to spend posting.
There already is a chat room, it's called Rihanna- "Loud" and its in the music news section. Be warned though, you're in for a group of horny rih stans...smh
