The year in music wasn't as bad as I remembered, but I'm still very ready to leave it behind.

Doesn't matter. Rap is still rap even if it's used in Pop songs, and it's obvious that it's still quite pre-dominant this year, not "irrelevant."

Sing-speak is pretty much rap-influenced, so I counted TiK ToK.

What? Those songs are POP, do you know what is hip-hop? (and not even because they were popular. It's pop genre)

Just because there is a black man OR because there's some talking in the song doesn't mean it has to be hip-hop/rap instantly.

Definitely hip-hop/rap/gangsta music is not big as once it was during 2001-2006.

and I think a few R&B/hip-hop songs smashed the Top 40 radio format.

We must be talking different things here. I mean "rap" as in rapping in the song, but you're talking about the genre/format. In any case, yes, it's not as big as it were during the early-mid 00's (probably the worst era in music), but it's not completely irrelevant. Airplanes, LTWYL, BedRock, ESOM, and Not Afraid were pretty big hits.
