This is my first year-end list in five years that doesn't have Utada's Passion.

Let's look at how I praised the song over the years.
2005
When I remember far, far back
The future was shining endlessly
Underneath the pretty blue sky
We slept endlessly
What can I say about this song? If it had been released earlier, it would've definitely been a #1 contender for the year. But since she got only six weeks in, it wasn't meant to be. But don't let my silly chart systems fool you. This song is one of the best ever made. It's like the regular Utada, made ten times better, and injected with a dose of Björk, new age, and plain musical genius. Just listening to it makes me forget about everything bad, and dream about everything good. In time, this could become my favorite song ever; it is THAT good. And of course we can't forget the breathtaking video, easily the best video of the year.
2006
"Passion" had already clocked six weeks at #1 in 2005, and it was my #6 song of that year. I never expected that it would stay at #1 on my weekly chart for 24 more weeks, shattering the previous record by 10 weeks. The song is a timeless work of art, it's the closest to perfection that pop music will ever come, it is unreal that this song was created (both the lyrics and the music) by a 22 year old woman. Anyone on Earth, the young and stupid, the old and wise, should listen to this song and become enlightened. Utada Hikaru deserves to be the most revered artist in all of music history and we should erect statues and museums in honor of her.
2007
The person I loved long ago
Is to have a child in winter
Sometimes I just want to doubt
Our promises made long ago
I could never forget
I wonder if your New Year's card will have a photo
I just look back, and miss
All the things we could never do
Chart run: 5-7-6-6-6-7-6-7-8-9-10-8-9-7-10-9-10-9-9-7-10-7-7-6-5-3-5-6-7-9-9-10-9-10-10-11-10-13-15-18-21-15-15-15-14-14-11-14-20-21-24-29
Yes, it's true, my #6 of 2005 and #1 of 2006 is again #1 in 2007. "Passion" is probably the best song ever made, every second of it is absolute brilliance. You haven't lived until you've loved "Passion".
2008
Omoidaseba haruka haruka
Mirai wa doko mademo kagayaiteta
Kirei na aozora no shita de
Bokura wa sukoshi dake obieteita
Peak: #12
My #6 of 2005, #1 of 2006 and #1 of 2007 is my #8 of 2008. "Passion" is my favorite song of all time and I still love to listen to it. I still remember when I first heard it. It was a life changing experience. There is no song as good as "Passion" and I don't think there ever will be.
2009
#12: Utada Hikaru - Passion
The best song of all time, on my year-end chart for the 5th year in a row.
