I can see the shade in that.

It's sold over 2.5 million copies worldwide, which is a success in my eyes. It didn't underperform, it just didn't have blockbuster sales like GGGB did. Critics loved this album a lot more than GGGB, I saw many four & five star reviews for it online, in magazines, etc.
One single nomination would make the era "worthy"? I personally don't think it's a big deal the songs weren't nominated, & the era was "worthy" because it gave people a new & more in-depth perspective of her & the album is excellent from the first to last track.

Loud & Rated R could have been combined into one album, titled Rebellious Flower (Or in French). Rated R was a downhill in Rihanna's career, and the "good" critics are just not enough to cover up the flaws.
Rihanna was arguably on the top in 2008, she had amazing Digital Power (Fact - #1 Digital Artist of the Last Decade). There was so much hype, everybody was expecting a club banger, and she released RR. Many people were disappointed and a lot of them lost interest in Rihanna, nobody liked the dark and depressing Rihanna. That was not what made her famous.
Rude Boy & LTWYL definitely saved her career.
