You seem to be forgetting the fact that Beyonce also had massive sales at the time. Her AI was only 50 million more than GaGa's, that's not much especially at Xmas time.
Poker Face only spent one week at number one, and the only reason it managed to get to #1 was because RR was removed from iTunes. It wouldn't have been #1 otherwise.
GaGa is more popular now than she was before. She has spent the past two years strengthening her fanbase. If her first single appeals to the casual buyer instantly like CG and WRWWR did then she's going to open with monstrous numbers.
